Whew! Okay this is one is definitely one of the more complicated family trees we got going on here. I'm also going to be deviating pretty hard from canon with these backstories as well, mostly because I haven't read any of the comics beyond a cursory skim of some of the character's wikipedia pages. So no umbrum or shadow ponies here! I'm also a little vague on some of the later seasons, so apologies if Starswirl is somewhat out of character. Fair warning, I love the alicorns a whole lot so their backstory is gonna be pretty bulky. I'll try to keep it the very basic facts though!

And oh boy, there's a ton of OCs on here, so I'll try to keep them organized for y'all

Names of the ponies directly connected to Celestia:
- Purple pegasus: Wind Chaser
- Pale orange Kirin: Candlelight
- Candlelight and Celestia's son: Sparks
- Wind Chaser and Celestia's daughter: Bright Moon
- Discord and Celestia's daughter: Sundance or Sunny

Luna and Rockhoof's children: Eventide and Moonlight Sonata

Luna and Celestia's brother and the third alicorn: Prince Gaius

Crystal ponies:
Princess Amore is at the top and her three sons from left to right are Prince Tourmaline, Prince Sombra, and Prince Larimar.

Some basic notes on what the heck is going on here:
- Celestia, Luna, and Gaius are not related by blood but grew up together in the same orphanage shortly after the three pony tribes came together. They were very close there and came to consider each other family.
- Starswirl was sort of their adopted parent, but he was mostly interested in the immense power the three had the potential to wield when he found them. The alicorn siblings have a very contentious relationship with him (this'll be explored more later hopefully)
- Celestia, Luna, and Gaius are not their original names! Celestia was Morning Glory, Luna was Blue Moon, and Gaius was Garden Patch.
- Celestia is the oldest of the three, Gaius is the middle sibling, and Luna is the youngest.
- Luna is actually half bat pony; her father was a bat pony and her mother was a pegasus
- Gaius was an earth pony and Celestia was a unicorn before they became alicorns
- Celestia and Discord are not married, though they are together. Discord doesn't really get the appeal of marriage and Celestia's been married enough times that she's not all that interested in doing it again (Discord's tempted to try and talk her into it though cause he wants to wear a big poofy dress and prank all the wedding guests)
- Bright Moon was Celestia's first daughter, born a few years after Luna was banished to the moon; Celestia named her after Luna
- Wind Chaser was the head of Clestia's personal body guard and they married shortly after the Nightmare Moon incident. They had already been close and became closer afterwards.
- Wind Chaser lived a very long, healthy life and she passed away peacefully in her sleep at an old age. Same with Bright Moon.
- Blueblood's family are very very old and direct decedents of Wind Chaser and Celestia. They take every opportunity to throw this fact around.
- Candlelight was a Kirin ambassador who spent a lot of time at the Canterlot court, several centuries after Wind Chaser died. It was very controversial when he and Celestia married
- Their son Sparks was assassinated by an extremist pro-pony group at a very young age.
- Candelight had always been frail and died of an illness about ten years after that. It was the last serious relationship Celestia had until Discord was reformed many years later
- Celestia's been alive a loooooooong time and these relationships listed here are not her only ones, though they are the ones that meant the most to her. Bright Moon, Sparks, and Sunny are the only children she's had.
- Luna and Rockhoof bonded over feeling really detached from time. They traveled Equestria together to get reacquainted with the land and fell in love during their travels
- The conflict between the crystal pony princes can basically be boiled down to: Sombra was the oldest and expected to become the next king, Amore didn't think he'd make a good king and named Larimar as her successor instead, Sombra was pissed and had Larimar secretly murdered after which Amore named Tourmaline the next successor, Sombra got MORE pissed, stole the Crystal Heart and launched a Civil War against his family during which Amore was killed. Gaius had been spending a lot of time in the Crystal Empire since he and Tourmaline were lovers, saw that Sombra had lost it AND was extremely powerful, and sacrificed himself to seal Sombra away while Tourmaline and their newborn son Turquoise escaped with a handful of other survivors.
- Cadence is a descendent of Gaius and Tourmaline

Okay I think that's enough info dumping for now lmao. I'll definitely do more art featuring all the drama that goes on with the alicorns later on
