Hi there!Just throwing that here.
This is a quick rendering tutorial i did this morning to help another artist.
The example here is skin, it's exaggeratedly glossy and the texture part is beyond unrealistic, but the principles applied here stays true.
There's probably a bit of missing information so if you've any question or want to know more don't hesitate to ask, i'll be glad to improve it and make it a valuable resource.
And yes it's written in french for now, i'll probably have to make an English version if enough people ask for it.

if anyone takes this as a reference, I recommend learning about subsurface scattering as well, it helps if you prefer your people alive and healthy looking.

It's true subsurface can convey skin and flesh, but in this case the light is a bit too dull to produce this effect.

Ambient occlusion is an excellent way to describe fast a form.γ

Why do you make the shadow darker at the peak of the form of the cast shadow example?

AmbiguityArt because that's the less likely area to receive bounce light in a usual lighting scenario (one light source), but there are many scenarios so that's more of a rendering shortcut for noobs.

Ah ok, so you're just treating it like a visible core shadow in this case then. I was curious since you put an x on the one on the left.
