Hey everyone!!

Here is the 110th page of my "Explorer's Notebook" for the "Animal of the Month" Event at : the Green Hairstreak!!!

I finished drawing it 4 days ago, but life was hectic these last 3 days, so I took time to photograph it only this pm...

This vividly green butterfly lives on a wide range of soils but is mostly found near scrub and shrubs, moors, heathland and bogs. They have in their binominal name "rubi" because of the Latin word "rubus" (=bramble), but honestly, when I saw it, I thought of "ruby" and was a bit puzzled maybe the person who gave them their name liked playing with complementary colors??

The Green Hairstreak is a small butterfly, and it doesn't migrate long distance, its wings' oversides are a somewhat dark brown, while the undersides, as you can see, are a very vivid green, with a thin white line, made of a continuous line, short streaks or dots. Their wings are also iridescent, thanks to a diffraction grating in the scales... they are mostly visible in the spring (generally from April to June) and, since we have a peat bog about 8km away from where I live, I'm definitely going to go there next spring and see if I can spot one irl

About the drawing: I had really much fun, even if it took time, selecting the colors and trying various mixes and blendings... it is truly a beautiful butterfly, and its colors are so vivid, I liked drawing it
