Trigger Warning//Note:

I am not trying to villainize mental illness, but rather depict a character who resisted help with his mental health and began a toxic lifestyle because he was reckless and not caring for himself. His actions are not excused because of his mental illnesses and he must recognize the consequences of his past behaviour and work on his current behaviour in order to mend the broken relationships and understand who he wants to be. As someone with various mental health conditions and experiencing Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder and ADHD through family, I went a bit on my experiences with my family (including the times they weren't medicated)
Knox is still an asshole even with his mental health in order and should not be uWu'ed/babied. He's a jerk that resisted help and when he finally did get help, it didn't magically fix his life or make people forgive him.
Knox was born from the brief relationship of Lois Lane and Oliver Queen in their early adulthood. They were already separated by the time Lois even found out she was pregnant. The pair decided to keep the baby, planning on trying to share the time equally until he was old enough for school and then decide where he’d mainly attend school.

However, the boy they got was a bit more of a handful than they would ever realize. They thought they just had a typical hyperactive and moody toddler but when school started… things did not get better. Knox was hyperactive, impulsive and an aggressive child that struggled with his frustrations and making friends. There were countless times that he was pulled from class to the Principals Office for disrupting class and causing fights.
Knox was bounced around between both houses, trying to find a school he wouldn’t be expelled from. There would be plenty of times where Knox would excel in school and get along with family... but then things would turn bad quickly. They started therapy and even tried hobbies/extra curriculars to see if they could get Knox to open up/ to get better at regulating his feelings. With Lois and Clark, he would go to the farm and help with the cows and with Oliver, he would practice fighting and archery. This did little to help him although they noticed he was more receptive as they spent more time with him.

Eventually, the therapists diagnosed Knox with ADHD and prescribed him medication. The medication, although it helped him focus on school, it resulted in him having difficulties sleeping and experiencing ‘rebound’ when the medication wore off for the day where his aggression and frustration would remanifest. They still struggled with his aggression and frustration when the medication wore off causing a lot of tension between him and his families. He still regularly went to therapy, having to try out so many medications for his 'additional symptoms' which they thought may be oppositional defiance disorder.

Knox wasn’t able to find the words to explain his frustrations and often lashed out when he felt vulnerable saying what he thought but coming off as aggressive. Knox felt unwanted. He was regularly being bounced between houses (often not even keeping schedule since something would come up and he’d have to switch houses) and his families had lives that were growing apart from him. His mother, Lois married Clark Kent and was becoming a famous reporter with a second son, Jonathan who was the type of son any mother wanted- kind, thoughtful, cheery. Meanwhile, his father became Green Arrow, was making new relationships and even adopted an older boy who was his sidekick and treating him more like a son than Knox felt like he was.
Knox felt replaced in both lives, and so after an outburst and fight with Roy (who Knox viewed as his father’s replacement for him), Knox decided he needed to be the one to sever the connections and left. He used the money put into his savings over the years (often as an apology from his dad for cancelling plans) and got a place in Metropolis under an alias since he was 14 and hiding out from his families. He lived a reckless life in this time- partying regularly and engaging in risk behaviours such as fighting or sleeping with strangers.
Knox wasn’t sure when it happened, but Lex Luthor began to keep an eye on him. He was interested in the boy and slowly build trust with Knox to create a secure relationship. Knox was devoted to Luthor since he felt seen and appreciated for who he was and began training himself to be an independent archer- after all, it was one of the few things he was happy to have learned from his father. Trusting Lex Luthor was a mistake though that he’d find out later. Soon, Lex convinced Knox around 16/17 to try and become a hero or at least sidekick worthy of the League and Oliver’s attention. Knox agreed, taking on the mantle of Paradox and working as a hero in Metropolis.

Superman and Green Arrow were hopeful that this independence meant that Knox was turning over a new leaf and jumped on the opportunity for Knox to be a sidekick under Green Arrow- taking him under the wing. Months went by, and although there was plenty of times where he clashed with Green Arrow over things, he was eventually trusted to visit the Watchtower after a year of him being a hero. However, this was a great mistake.

Not only for the League but for Knox. He began to like the hero life and was starting to feel a better relationship with his parents and siblings. Although he still didn't like his step-dad, Knox was starting to be able to tolerate them all and even find enjoyment in the BRIEF visits.

Luthor had given Knox a simple thumb drive. Inconspicuous to the others and easily hidden on his suit. Knox waited until a few times being there before he slipped the drive into one of the computers. A virus immediately struck the system, giving Luthor remote access to the mainframe to download all their information while the League was unable to use their computers. The Justice League did not take this well, after all they began to trust him. After getting his ass handed to him by Robin (Damian Wayne) and his main hand being broken. Knox was able to get out afterwards and went back to Luthor, expecting great praise and reward… but nothing changed.
Luthor began to put stricter rules on Knox’s life- having him go to school for Graphic Design (something Knox was actually interested in) and ‘interning’ at LexCorp. As the time went on, Knox became more and more agitated until one day he snapped and went to attack Lex Luthor. After that, it as a blur until he woke up in Arkham Asylum (apparently being sent there instead of jail thanks to Lex’s sway) for his crime against the League.

At Arkham, Knox was forced to finally confront his mental health and anger. He was re assessed and diagnosed with ADHD and Bipolar Disorder. Surprisingly, after a few more tries, his medication began to work for him to make him feel balanced and less likely to explode- although he felt less energetic (likely due to years of hyperactivity that he attributed to normal)

As a lesser villain, Knox was trusted to have a cellmate and was put in a cell with a dark haired man named Dean. He didn’t like or trust Dean at first, but as they got to know each other and open up, Knox began to trust him while still being able to tell Dean when things bothered him. The pair stuck together in Arkham (with Knox beating up people who bugged Dean and Dean patching him up so the guards wouldn’t know and send him to isolation)
After a prison escape, Knox was once again confronted by Luthor, expecting Knox to fall in line after his ‘vacation’. Knox began to work for Luthor again since Luthor knew everything about him, could throw him into any prison easily, and funded most of Knox’s resources. Knox agreed to work for him again- although he no longer had the blind loyalty to Lex Luthor anymore and missed the bond/time with his family that he had been starting to make. Knox chose this mainly since he was afraid of trying to reconnect with his family this time- under the guise that they felt better off without him and they wouldn’t listen to him or trust him once again.

Currently, Knox is trying to decide what to do next as he takes on hits and other tasks as assigned for Luthor, while trying to help the heroes during dire circumstances (think of events like end of the world). He lives in an apartment with his roommate and crush/love interest, Dean (who waited until he was released from Arkham legally). While he still comes off as a dick, Knox is beginning to trust more people and consciously work on his relationships. Maybe he’ll stay to his ways… maybe he’ll become an anti-hero. It all depends on what’s thrown his way.
