Past/Bio
1) For the sake of this canon, Lois Lane's birth year in Young Justice is NOT used. Lois Lane's birth year in this canon is 1977.
2) Trigger Warning//Note: This character has depictions of untreated/mistreatment of mental illness, toxic lifestyles and manipulation in their story. This is not trying to villainize mental illness or excuse his actions because of his mental illness.
As someone with mental illness and family/friends with mental illnesses including the ones discussed, I am using my personal and professional knowledge towards representing these illnesses specifically: Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, Manic and Depressive Episodes as well as influences of Borderline Personality Disorder.
3) Knox is still an asshole even with his mental health in order and should not be uWu'ed/babied. He's a jerk that resisted help and when he finally did get help, it didn't magically fix his life or make people forgive him.
Upon entering school, Oliver and Lois were aware Knox struggled in class due to his hyperactivity and impulsiveness, bordering on hostility. Still, they hoped it was just an adjustment to the school routine. In addition, he soon began going by Lennox and eventually 'Nox/Knox' because there was another Jonas in his class, but he would still reply to Jonas if needed. They tried schooling in Star City for a few years, but it was clear he was not doing well in this environment as he would rarely be able to keep friends for long periods and often picked fights. Due to his school behaviour, Knox was referred to a therapist who diagnosed him with ADHD, giving them medication and tips to help, including new hobbies to burn his energy. He began to draw but also had hobbies with both parents: with Lois, he would either hike or visit the Kent farm to see/help with the animals with Clark; with Oliver, he would learn how to fight and refine his archery skills. On the medical end, Knox was prescribed medicine to help with his focus during school hours; however, the medication would often cause difficulties sleeping, nightmares, and rebound periods in the evenings where his aggression and frustration would return, fueled by his exhaustion and tension.
At 8 years old, Knox moved to live with Lois as a chance to have a fresh start for school, but also because Oliver was finding it more challenging to parent Knox while being Green Arrow. He would still routinely visit his dad, but there were more times when plans would be cancelled unexpectedly. This move made Knox feel unwanted, causing him to lash out more because of vulnerable feelings Knox didn't even truly understand. At this time, he began to go by Knox almost exclusively- although his parents often used Jonas when frustrated, especially Oliver. Even though his parents tried, Knox couldn't help but feel like they each had their own lives and that Knox was just around out of obligation.
So, when Oliver took in Roy Harper, even making him a sidekick, Knox's relationship with Oliver worsened even more. Knox immediately disliked Roy, who was taken in full time AND got to be Oliver's sidekick. Knox had been aware of Oliver's secret. He was even allowed to train with him but had never been considered to become his sidekick since Oliver was concerned that Knox was not mentally stable or mature enough to handle being a sidekick. This was never told to Knox, which resulted in a lot of times Roy teasing him for not becoming a sidekick and Oliver constantly having to break up fights between an 11 and 15 year old. This tension and anger even bled into Knox's life in Metropolis as Lois found Knox starting to have more erratic behaviour, such as withdrawing for weeks before suddenly wanting to be extra social and engaging in risky behaviours such as climbing extremely tall trees or sneaking into buildings.
In 2010, after constantly seeing heroes having sidekicks- especially after the sidekicks went to the Hall of Justice- Knox decided to steal some equipment from Green Arrow and Speedy's stash and take it back to Metropolis. He altered the clothing to his taste and soon decided he would try to be a vigilante. He was constantly being found by Superman, who promptly returned him to Lois' apartment when telling Knox to go home wouldn't work. Knox was unsure how Superman knew who he was, but tattling on him to his mom would not deter him.
Lois, out of concern for Knox and tired of Superman having to drop off her son every night from sneaking out, told Oliver what was going on and that he needed to intervene. So, in early 2011, although reluctant, Oliver offered Knox to come back and live with him to learn how to be a sidekick. He decided to offer this since he was hoping by doing this, he could fix the damaged relationship, be able to monitor Knox’s hero work and have something going right in his life after finding out the Roy he mainly knew was a clone.
Knox jumped at the chance to finally prove himself - especially with the idea he could surpass Roy. However, when he arrived, Roy and Oliver were different and seemingly occupied with something else they refused to tell Knox. Oliver told Knox that if he could prove a certain level of maturity and skill, he would let Knox join 'The Team.' Knox was on his best behaviour with his goal in mind, training and asking for patrols daily until mid-2011. Knox was finally introduced to the Team. Oliver would often still limit the missions Knox could do since he was worried about Knox getting hurt or worse, following the same downward path as Roy, this led Knox to think that Oliver thought he was the weakest of the archers. At first, he butted heads with the Team as they would routinely compare him to Roy and Artemis but he soon found his place, especially as other new members joined and as Conner began to help him calm down when frustrated.
Knox grew close to Troia, developing strong feelings for her and eventually asking her out in 2012. Their relationship was on-again, off-again, but she was often one of the few people who could make him see logic. The other person would be Jason Todd, as the two immediately bonded and sparred together constantly, seeking out fun and trouble wherever they could. Knox finally had someone who understood him and could bitch about things without people trying to make him see logic/reason. This was the first person Knox would call his best friend.
It wasn't perfect being on the Team, but it was the best thing in his life thus far- especially with access to Zeta Tubes that let him visit Lois whenever. The Team was finding that Paradox and Robin - as part of the same squad- were starting to become less restrained while fighting, taking higher risks, and talking back with authority. Oliver, fearing the friendship was a bad influence on Knox, began to push for the boys to be separated more, for Knox to be on fewer missions, and enforced more rules at home. He knew Knox hated him for it, but it was his way of ensuring Knox didn't get in trouble.
Oliver's strict rules and not seeing his friend routinely caused a lot of stress to Knox, pushing him into a low period just in time to visit Lois for Christmas break. He would sleep most of the day, barely eat, and seemed not to care anymore. This concerned Lois. She reached out to Oliver to see if something had happened, and he discussed this history of being more aggressive and danger-seeking sometimes, then tired for days. Upon discussing it with Clark, Oliver and Dinah, the group agreed that a medical professional had to deal with this. They decided to take Knox to an inpatient program, even as he pleaded with Lois to not leave him. Lois and Oliver visited him every day, but Knox stayed in the program going through diagnosis, group therapy and individual counselling, where he was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. When he was finally released, Knox felt tense around everyone, as if he were being judged, especially by Oliver, who suddenly gave Knox more attention. Knox was finally getting his wish for his dad's attention… for the wrong reason. After a few weeks, when the medication seemed to help regulate him, things began to calm down for Knox with his family, and they let him back on the Team without any restrictions about working with Robin.
Fearing the Team was judging him, Paradox began to take more solo patrols in Star City or Metropolis. A few of these times, he would stumble upon Lex Luthor, who would be interested in talking to him. Although hesitant, Knox soon began to open up to Lex, who seemed to empathize with Knox about the shared struggles of fathers that you could never please and not fit in. Knox began to lower his guard with Luthor- thinking he was genuine. Little did he know he was being manipulated by Luthor to eventually be used against the Team.
Life was cruel to Knox as Troia broke up with him for his immature nature, and less than a month later, Jason died at the hands of the Joker. At this point, Knox felt like he was again abandoned by the people he cared most about. He began to start acting out even more in his grief- refusing to take his medication, sneaking into clubs and picking fights whenever he could.
Luthor began to amp up his manipulation of Paradox, complimenting him on things that Luthor shouldn't have known about… things that Oliver and Nightwing would chastise him for. When Tim joined the Team, it was the final fuse that Luthor needed. Luthor convinced Knox that it was only a matter of time before he would be replaced again. After all, Oliver was still looking for the real Roy Harper, trying to get Clone Roy/Will back… and Knox was only allowed to join the Team when Clone Roy/Will left. Knox believed he needed to sever the ties and hurt them before they hurt him. Eventually, Knox agreed to work for Luthor, and his first test of loyalty was to steal files for Lex Luthor on the locations of all Zeta-Tubes and other information that impacted the Justice League's ability to function efficiently. Knox did, choosing Oliver's birthday simply as salt in the wound.
For months, Knox was off the map. When he resurfaced in late 2015, he went by Knox Atticus Lane. He was enrolled in college for graphic design and a 'LexCorp Graphic Design Intern,' which was a cover for his actual role, which was to be Luthor's secondary bodyguard and 'attack dog' of sorts to send on various tasks, including stopping the Team from interrupting Lex Luthor's business. Since Knox was following Luthor's rules, he was free to do whatever he wanted during the day. Although the graphic design was a cover story, Knox enjoyed the courses. Most of his free time was spent partying but on call for Lex Luthor. He would steal, take out enemies of Luthor or lurk in the shadows for a well-aimed shot as needed. Whenever Knox would act out against Luthor, he would often be placed in either a prison or Arkham Asylum under a false name for 'his own good' and to be seen as a 'vacation.'
During Season 2, Knox was placed in Kaldur'ahm's Strike Team. Working again with his old team leader, Knox initially doubted Kaldur's intentions under Black Manta but slowly began to believe he may have given up the Team. However, from his talks with Kaldur'ahm, he began questioning Luthor's motives to have Knox work for him.
These talks lingered with Knox for the next two years, especially as he found his dynamic with Luthor switched to one simply about work. So, when he began to hear about Luthor's work with metahuman trafficking, it was a wake-up call to Knox that Luthor had been playing him for all these years. Although initially planning to take excessive measures, Knox soon found himself meeting with Troia, who was reaching out to see if he would help behind the scenes to stop the metahuman trafficking. To work behind Luthor's back to funnel information and resources to the Team.
Knox goes to leave Luthor's team, but Luthor is aware of Knox's betrayals and, before he can leave, is put into an unknown Asylum, seemingly left to rot. He wasn't sure how long he was left there, overmedicated and isolated, until finally, one day, he was rescued from the Asylum- although he barely remembers how he was rescued. He only knew that he woke up in what he would later find out was Will's house with Troia there. It turned out Troia set up the rescue mission but, as a member of the UN and wanting to avoid a political scandal, asked Will to do the physical rescue to keep the Team from knowing until it happened. Knox lives in Will's basement for a short time, much to Knox’s dislike at first, as he processes what he wants his next steps to be, eventually starting as a freelance Graphic Designer and getting his own apartment.
Even as Knox tries to live a low-key life, he finds himself drawn to the idea of doing patrols and fighting once more, often doing so on nights he can't sleep or has a lot of energy. During this time, he began reconnecting with people from his past and met his half-brother, Jon. It was a small start for things to get better.
In Season 4, Knox is trying to prove that he deserves a chance again to be a Hero, doing highly supervised missions as requested.
About Them
Personality (include positive and negative traits):
Impulsive | Aggressive | Flirty | Upfront | Closed (About true/deeply personal thoughts)| Observant | Disobedient | Charismatic |Knox rarely holds back what he is thinking, unless it is to further a scheme or to avoid talking about his own feelings/emotions. He likes to do what he wants and not think about the consequences. Typically, he will jump head first into a task or mission, however when he has a clear future goal, he can become calculated even though others may not recognize that. Deep down though, he is a scared person who is afraid to get hurt more than he already feels, and chooses instead to hurt others first. He often comes across as shallow or a jerk, but for those few people he cares about, Knox will do anything for them. He is known in his younger years especially, to go through weeks where he is experiencing depressive moods and low energy or weeks of high energy and risk taking.

Relationship Description
Oliver Queen: As a child, Knox loved having his father’s attention, he looked up to him and wanted to be more like his dad especially as he became a hero. However, through the years as Oliver’s priorities had to be adjusted, Knox has grown resentful and spiteful of Oliver because it seemed that Oliver was always prioritizing others over him. /// Oliver loves his son and sees a lot of himself in Knox. So, as a teen, he thought that through tough love and trying to keep him in check would straighten Knox out like it did to Oliver. He blames himself for Knox becoming a villain and wants to do what he can to support Knox as an adult as he navigates a more lawful path without enabling him to do bad things. He is trying to be patient and open for the chance that Knox may want to rekindle their relationship.
Lois Lane-Kent: Knox has a good relationship with his mother even though there are some tensions around some aspects of his upbringing, he cares greatly for her and understands she was trying to do things out of kindness. They do talk regularly, however most hero/villain work is a taboo topic around one another. // Lois cares for her son and has always advocated for his well being, especially with his mental health. She is proud to see that although he strayed, he is finding his own path without trying to do it to appease others.
Jonny Kent: Knox has only met Jon a few times since birth, but seems to get along fine with the toddler- called Oxy by him when he visits. Most times when Knox visits, he often takes Jon out to the animals on the Kent farm. Even with only a few visits though, Knox seems to have a knack for knowing what the toddler wants/needs.
Martha Kent: Ma Kent is the closest to a grandparent that Knox has- with the patience of a saint and seeming to know how to read Knox well. She has always been welcoming to him since Lois introduced them, and although may give him a stern talking to when she hears he has done something stupid, always softens the blow with pie.
Jason Todd: Teenage best friend of Knox, they got along well for their similar beliefs and being around the same age. Often acting like dumb teenagers together, these two would find trouble in everyday life. They were each other's confidants and supports. When Jason died, it devastated Knox to the point of relapsing in his mental health care.
Troia: He enjoyed Troia for her bluntness and strength. Although they often bickered and had different ideas of justice, they cared for each other and had a mutual interest in art; although hers was more on the symbolism and history and his was on expression and creation. However, after dating on and off for some time, she ended things with him when his toxic self-destructive behaviour was impacting her day to day. After reconnecting, these two seem to be once again in an on again, off again dynamic.
Roy Harper: Knox has a tense relationship with Roy- thinking he was replacing Knox. Roy and Knox butt heads with one another and often get into physical altercations. This was true for both the original Roy and the clone Roy. Now, Knox still struggles with the younger Roy, in part because of past incidents but also due to seeing similarities between the original Roy and Knox when he was younger.
Will Harper: The most complicated of all of Knox’s relationships. Knox and Will (as Roy) were very heated rivals with many altercations over things said or implied. However, after Will agrees to help Troia rescue Knox, it seems the pair are starting to try and form a fresh relationship because they’ve both grown into adults and are recognizing why the other would do what they did. You could almost say it’s becoming a friendship but both would deny it, even as Knox lives in Will’s basement.
Hero/Villain Information
Code Name: Paradox
Place of Origin: Metropolis
Residence: Star City
Affiliations: Lex Luthor (Formerly), Arrow Family, Superman
Powers and Abilities:
Skilled Archer
- A proficient marksman who is able to use various projectile weaponry with astonishing accuracy, although Knox prefers bows and arrows due to nearly a decade of experience with them by the time he joins the Team. He is adept at calculating trajectories and predicting enemy projectiles.
Hand to Hand Combatant
- From training with Oliver and various allies of Lex Luthor, Knox is proficient in various styles, often with a mixed martial arts approached. His skill in hand to hand combat and archery often means he will create opportunities to switch between the two to get the upper hand.
Taunting
- Due to his observant nature, Knox is greatly capable of picking up on things to use for upsetting his enemies or shifting the focus onto himself rather than his teammates. This is often used to disrupt his opponent’s strategy.
Some Flexibility/Agility
- Raised from an early age in martial arts and from sneaking into places he shouldn’t be, Knox is more flexible or agile than the average person.
Weapons:
Bows
On the Team: Paradox would use a recurve bow as his primary bow as it was quicker to draw and aim in closer distances and less maintenance.
While working under Luthor, Paradox began to use a compound bow- which worked well to provide more force and accuracy for long distance shooting and for add-ons. However, as he began to question Luthor’s work, Paradox subconsciously found himself drawn back to the recurve bow.
Arrows
Paradox’s standard arrowhead is a Broadhead due to its wide cutting edge to cause the most damage to an opponent but does keep other arrowheads for other tasks.
A variety of trick arrows, with his preferred arrows being: shock arrows, explosive arrows and smoke arrows.
Bowie Knife
Mainly used for close range fighting or to cut traps, he keeps a bowie knife in his boot as needed. This was added per recommendation of Robin II to help minimize his weakness in close range fights or when without a bow.
Steel Toed Boots
To give that extra oomph/force in kicking opponents and to protect his feet in fights.
Weaknesses:
Emotional/Easily riled up
Knox can easily be thrown off his plans/missions when he is riled up or emotional. This can be due to his team, his foe or even his own thoughts making him feel this way. Villains who know info about him can often rile him up so he is drawn into close range or traps.
Little tactical awareness in combat//rarely thinks before he attacks
Although he can be tactical in scheming outside of combat, in combat he is heavily reliant on getting blows in or using specific arrows.
Dependent on his tools for long range
Knox relies heavily on his bowie knife and arrows or other assorted tools for his work to succeed.
Human Weakness/Injury:
Although used to pain, he is a human and can easily be injured.
