nice skecth and coloring. Gives out the "mystic" feeling she need+ a little of undead...

I like Asellus. I really like the coloring on this, especially on her hair, and how the greens of her hair contrast with the reds of her outfit.

I. Am in love. With THIS! This is FANTASTIC! Reminds me of some of the art I'm getting into, where I draw the way I like and disregard completely the laws of physics and biology.

I mean really, painting and drawing doesn't always have to be non-fiction, people!

Anyway, the colors you've used make the character look edgy, dark, obsessive and dangerous. Which is unbelievably Asellus to a T. I love what you've done with her hair and the color of her eyes.

The shape of the head, the feather hair, and the thin neck all lend a sort of nightmare surrealist note to it, like what your seeing isn't quite real. I like it a lot. It's really beautiful, and devilishly inventive and original. VERY good job.

I'm not familiar with the character, but I love the way you've drawn and colored this pic. The eyes in particular draw you into this Your coloring on the face is very smooth and well done

The linework looks a little scratchy, but I'm not sure if that's what you were going for or not. I like it, it contrasts with the smooth coloring and adds additional interest to the piece.

Tarynnnn I'm not dead. Just not very artful lately. Glad to be back though! I miss my dA homies. XD

I tried my darn hardest on the coloring, I'm glad you like it. And I did work on the eyes like a fiend. The linework started scratchy and the coloring ended up really smooth on accident really...my comp lineart always ends up way scratchier and sketchier than if I use pen or pencil and scan. But, I thought after all that the jagginess fits the mood of the pic, so I figured, why not

Thankies for commenting My dA page is all but dead since I've been inactive so long. I have to fix that over the rest of summer and the upcoming school year.

Asellus art! <3 The color palette worked out really well, and I like how you did her eyes.

Thanks ^_^ I love Asellus to ittybits, she's got the most interesting quest in all of SaGa Frontier IMHO. Then again I love the whole game so yeah.

Thanks for the kind comment

Ahh, Asellus. Her scenario was the only one I could play through for that game. For the record, I daresay I would have liked the game, if it weren't for the whole "wandering around blindly, hoping you stumble upon what you're supposed to do next" factor. Of course, I *was* still in my "I'm too (wo)manly for a FAQ!" stage back then, too. :รพ

This is some groovy work here, and does the character justice, I'd say. Much love for the hair and eyes in particular. The colors you blended into the eyes stand out so vividly among the dark tones of the rest of the image, yet without overdoing it--s'spiffy. I'm also fond of her earrings, and the way the blue 'petals' of her collar curl up and under as they do. I believe someone else noted about the neck, so, I guess that's about all I can say.

Hey! SaGa fanart!! I'm actually more of an Unlimited:SaGa fan (if you thought nobody liked Frontier, you should try asking people what do they think about this one...), but each and every piece of SaGa fanart is very much appreciated! :3 Love it!

If you find it real cheap, give it a try. I've loved it. I guess the only problem is that neither the instruction manual nor the game itself are so kind as to give you a tutorial, so it can (euphemism ahead) be a little tricky at the beginning, but once you've found a good FAQ (not a whole walkthrough, just a character development and weapon FAQ) it's a great game Besides, as you said, the original art (both Kobayashi's and Naora's) is as pretty as original art can be...
By the way, have you heard of that Romancing remake with U:SaGa-esque movies and artworks? More prettiness, yay! XD

Moppy In reply to crimsontriforce [2004-11-07 15:20:38 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, actually I just have (replying to very old comment dA didn't see fit to notify me of that I just found ) It looks GOOD! I'm totally gonna get it.

Naora's art is awesome but I have a bit of bias towards Kobayashi and her watercolors of DOOM. The level of detail and ornation on her characters blows me right away. For a while I tried to draw like her but it just kinda failed utterly XD Oh well.

Argh it's late and I have things to do! *runs away*

Thanks! I haven't bought Unlimited:SaGa yet out of ph34r, I've heard the reviews and I dunno if I should put money into it since my cash is always tight...But then again I usually like games nobody else does so I should try it at least once for sure, plus it's getting cheap back home. There needs to be more SaGa fanart! Yargh! The original art is SO pretty that I'm surprised more people don't want to draw fanart of it!

^O^ Well, I figured you liked Asellus 'cause you got your name as, well, Asellus. ^-^; It takes practice...I still generally flub her whole costume really badly, thus why the headshot works so well. ^3^ I don't have to worry about anything past the very tops of her shoulders and life is good.

You should try! Practice makes perfect ne? ^___^ And thanks for the fave~

creatingmyths [2004-10-08 16:43:08 +0000 UTC]

Very nice. Your use of color makes me envious. Also, did you change styles for this? The eyes look smaller and the nose is lower on the face. I like this style very much.

Some of the colors look pixalated in a few places. Also, maybe try a different background - maybe something darker. Try to make the earrings reflect light more too. It looks a bit odd that her cheeks are reflecting more light than her earrings, which are located around the same region. Light will help to make the earrings stand out some more

Aside from all that, the picture looks very nice (as I said before). I'm jealous of your digital art skills. Somehow, this picture makes me want to do something in pastels or oil paint. I think it's because your handiwork resembles either or both. I can see where this could translate easily into either medium.

Moppy In reply to creatingmyths [2004-10-08 18:08:19 +0000 UTC]

I tried to keep the colors smooth but my hand was hurting at the end so I rather gave up about it. Ah well.

Yesh, my style always changes...I totally don't have one single style I use. I'm good at ye big bubbly shoujo eyes and all, that's my norm...but I got several side styles I switch in and out of.

I wonder if I should Photoshop the background to be darker...I nunno. >.>; And the suggestion about the earrings would be so easy I could just do it right now...but no, I need to go to bed! Ne.

Oil paint is a bitch! I hates it forever. Oil pastels, on the other hand, are sweetness in little squinchy chalk-shaped form. But I always manage to goober them up somehow in real life. I think I rely too much on being able to go back over something repeatedly as I build up a picture, I can't just slap down all the shading on the first try. But then again most people can't so it's okay! ^o^

your colours truly mixed well. I like the green-hair and the yellow eyes, they mix well.

I do not know your style, but I'm wondering if the neck is supposed to be pencil-thin, or if it's hidden by the hair, I'm unsure which it is. Shoulders are quite broad, but that may be your style.

The lines are interesting, as they give an incredible amount of depth into the picture, whereas straight lines and well-inked ones would have truly taken away from the style and the mood of the picture. The lines go incredibly well with the colouring job.

As for perspective, the head looks crooked, perhaps bent forward, but not followed through. The neck seems jagged and back (From what I can see) making the head look like it's trying to roll off of the neck...

All in all, however, it is a very good piece of art.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Moppy In reply to kiljax [2004-10-08 14:10:55 +0000 UTC]

Her neck's partially hidden by the lock of hair on her left, our right. Plus her shirt collar is deforming the outline a bit as it's tall and the top's jaggy and the edges curl down (I don't think I did her collar too well myself...gwah, fancy clothes are hard for me to draw because I wear plain casual stuff all the time...even to special events ).

Stylistically she does have a very funky neck...probably her head could be a bit better aligned without detracting from it though, I think you're right about that. It's too finished to change but I'll remember for future reference. Probably the fact that I did it without guidelines has something to do with it. But part of what's making it look like she's looking down is that the style I used for this picture basically throws standard facial feature placement right out the window and puts everything farther down.

Thanks for the in-depth comment! I appreciate the feedback

Well, you said it yourself. You own. ^.~ This pic is incredibly good. I have no idea what SaGa Frontier is, or who this character is, but This is really gorgeous--I -love- the colors. I would critique it if I could find something that I thought was amiss--but nothing is to my eye.

SaGa Frontier is a rather oldish by now Playstation game by Square (before they were Square Enix like they are now). Nobody in the U.S. liked it except me...it was a hit in Japan though and they made all kinds of awesome art and backstory and gameplay books (and a special edition set with a t-shirt and teacup and saucer set! It's really gorgeous!) about it...all of which I own bwahaha. The translation's not so hot, the game is harder than a tooth extraction without anesthetic...but I love it to death. =3 Once you have the hang of how to deal with the funkifiedness of it it's not bad. (Memorizing a decent FAQ/walkthrough helps too... )

Thanks for the comment! I didn't know how such gloomy drab colors would go over...it looks funneh in my gallery next to all these sugary hyper-saturated things.
