- Haiku To The Geisha by Ashlee Betteridge
Painted in PS CS6 with wacom intous 4. Took about 30 hours, but time is not important
I wanted to draw a traditional geisha. I don't like the sexed up, lolita versions people are so fond of depicting. Geisha are beautiful to me precisely because their allure and grace doesn't come from a pop culture idea of what sexy is. Giving them that sort of modern make-over is completely missing the point. /end rant

As a long-time fan of geisha and maiko, I completely understand where your rant comes from. As much as I love the whole lolita scene, I get the impression that some people really don't get the geisha sensibilities and culture. Nice work!

oh wow I love this piece. I saw it featured on ~newcmv-x page and I wanted to critique it but all I have to say about it is positive. I just love her kimono and all the patterns and colors within. it is so appealing to the eye. I love the serenity in her face. and the cherry blossoms falling around her make this painting just that more interesting. I love it
