I loved who he was before. But what he became later was quite understandable. Deep down I believe he is at war with himself, questioning who he is and why he is here.

While I can't STAND the prank scene in MU (The part were the PNK girls started laughing really confused me), pixar did an excellent job of who he was before how he went evil. I blame mostly ROR and Mr Waternose for it .

It was Johnny's fault for tainting and manipulating Randall into thinking being cool and popular is the only way to get monsters to love and accept him, probably even telling him lies about Mike and why he made him take part in that prank. When Randall failed, they kicked him out, showing they did not care for him at all.

Maybe Johnny was also manipulating the PNKs to make them invite the oks with the girls not knowing that it was a prank (they did looked surprised at first)
