Description
I hope everyone gota chance to read Hidden Grotto and Pirate's Grotto before now. I was holding off on uploading this so I wouldn't spoil people before they had a chance to read the stories he showed up in. App updates! Cortez wasn't originally on the list of characters to get one, but I needed to draw him for something else that probably won't be uploaded, so I decided to also use the base art here as it's way better. (4/17)
Name: Cortez Hermanos
Species: Leafy Sea Dragon / Wyrm
Birthday: 8/5
Catchphrase: "Scally"
Quote: "Ye better hope you don't find me on a bad day, scally."
Character Type(s): Cranky
Height: Approximately 5' tall from ground to top of head; approximately 20' long from snout to tail tip.
Age: 63 (As of 2019)
History:
Originally a sailor from Spain, Cortez soon found himself going rouge when his legitimate shipping company failed to pay the bills. He and his crew; fiercely loyal to a captain who had done so much for them that they would follow along, switched to a life of pirating. Abandoning any life they once had before, they sailed the seven seas, attacking cargo ships and looting any valuables they could get their grubby claws on. Over the years, activity began to die down once some of the crew left or grew too old to continue being of use, as well as a general need to lie lower as ships became weary of Cortez's antics. By now, the only ones truly left are Cortez himself and his right hand, a carbuncle named Gala. The two made a hideaway in a hidden away grotto in the cliffs of an abandoned town, where they planned to lie low.
Except the town came back. Unbenounced to them, they had settled along the coast of what was going to become the new Lillypad. Eventually the town rose anew, and the two, now trapped with little way to sail a ship back out unnoticed, continued to hide away in their cave, stalling until a new plan could be elaborated. Unfortunately for them, their hideaway was discovered by Sana. Currently, the trio have an uneasy allience where in Sana does not tell anyone about what she found, and Cortez doesn't find her home and burn it to the ground.
Personality:
Cortez is a grumpy old man who is still trying to hold on to his glory days. On the inside, he struggles with feelings of failure and fleeting age, so he tries to convince himself and others that he's still as competent as he was in his prime. As an ex-captain, Cortez can be quite arogant, bull-headed, and in constant need for others to follow his beck and whim. That being said, he does excel at leadership; being fully able to command and micromanage an entire crew even in the most heated of moments. With the loss of his crew, he respects very few people, namely only his second-in-command Gala. He only respects those with loyalty or those who aren't afraid to butt heads and stand their ground against him.
Other:
Proof of the won Gold Villager Ticket used to make him.
- Cortez's operation began as an actual shipping vessel, but was but into jeopardy when another pirate vessel robbed them. With little choices beyond bankruptcy, Cortez himself turned to pirating.
- Cortez refuses to speak of the home life he abandoned when he went rouge. Only Gala truly knows, and she's even less likely to spill the beans.
- Is also incredibly vague about where his chain came from. The story always seems to change...
- His second-in-command, Gala Algol, is a vulpine-like carbunkle with two pairs of ears and the typical ruby on her forehead. She is fully blind, and relies on her ability to sense auras to guide herself around. She's very mono-tone, unyielding, unphasable, but loyal to her oldest friend.
- Cortez's crew amassed up to 20 members at its peak, though it slowly dwindled down over the years until only two remained.
- Cortez's ship remains docked and hidden in a grotto somewhere in the cliffs off to the east of town. He and Gala live here still. While they will occasionally leave the cave for supplies, the ship hasn't budged in years out of fear of being discovered and hunted.
- Seems to have a bit of a Spanish accent, but it's mixed up with other things from the sounds of it, and it's often masked behind his pirate impersonation.
- His body seems to always be slick, almost slimy, as though he just crawled out of the murky depths.
Clothing Articles:
- Golden Chain
Abilities and Powers:
~Breath Attack - Cortez’s breath attack is a superheated, gaseous, acidic spray. This is a biological chemical reaction similar in nature to a bombardier beetle, in which compounds are created inside special organs and when needed, are released and mixed causing a reaction which heats and vaporizes the chemicals.
~Bodily Slime - Cortez’s body produces a slime that thinly coats his body at almost all times. Useful for both staying hydrated and being difficult to maintain a grip on.
~Amphibious - Can breath both above and below water. Is partially a leafy sea dragon (a type of seahorse), so has pretty decent mobility underwater.
~Quad Potion - Can take a quadrupedal stance.

Hnnngggg, okay he’s so long, imagining him in a room means that boat was bigger than I was imagining. I love it!

He's a biiig boy. Though of course, he can curl up to fit in places better. For sure though, it's a big ship; it was originally fitted to host an entire shipping crew, and whatever cargo.
