"Dad?"

The young ginger tom emerged before his father, eyes soft as ever as confusion laced his expression. He wasn't the bumbling little cub that ran around, sparring with his siblings anymore. Sure he was still young, but he gained definition in his legs and held himself a little better.

Anyone could tell you he was becoming an adolescent before their very eyes, and peeking on apprenticeship.

Sure, he was excited -- thrilled actually! He would finally be allowed to explore the territory at full, and see the wonders his grandpa Zadar told him about. Face the dangers his grandmother warned him about. Most importantly, become a valuable member to Ice Empire.

Yet, something still plagued him.

No, he wouldn't be alone, Joey would never be alone - even if he tried his hardest. But a part of him felt alone. He missed Gryphon.

"Why did they have to leave..? Gryphon and his family? Not everybody left.. I don't understand why he had to?"

Heitiere flicked an ear at that, trying to find the words that didn't seem to want to be found. Sure, there were abundant reasons why they left... but he was far too young to understand the complexity of them.

"Sometimes son.... Important cats in your life have to go, because they're needed elsewhere, perhaps to do greater things there than they ever would have here."

Jotunn let his shoulders fall at that, ears flattening in mild disappointment.

"Do you think he'll ever be needed here again?"

"Only time will tell."
