Description
this is my life... i photographed this while working in a meadow on the edge of the Ansel Adams wilderness, california. The shot is of balloon dome just east of mammoth pools in the sierra nevadas. I had to climb 40' up a tree to get this shot... hope you enjoy it as much as i do!i originally shot this in color, however the color shot was much less dramatic and it did not reflect the true expanse of this landscape... if you think a color shot might be better please let me know... also any critiques are most welcome

Geez...How could I criticize a person who would climb a forty foot tree to get a shot?!? I like your choice in black and white
It adds so much to the contrasts in the shot and I think it makes it richer.
Well done

I like the atmosphere of this photo, it's sort of a dialogue between Heaven & Earth. Mentioning Ansel Adams, he is my favourite photographer

This is really great. The thing that bothers me is the little trees poking out at the bottom. They just feel distracting and kind of soft anyhow.
The tones are pleasing.

yeah, those damn little trees, lol. i actually had to climb up a tree to get the shot with as limited interference.. oh well. thank you much!!!

The light on this one is just great, but did you experiment with cropping it differently?
Just using my window resize I think it is possible to make at least 2 other, good images with a different composition here. I found one on the left edge, omitting the flatter forest and the mountains in the distance, and another one by removing most of the foreground so only the bald head of the peak to the left shows.
I am not necessarily saying better, just good too , and different from the original - the power of cropping and digital images Get the light right as you have done here and you get a lot to work with!

thanks!!! i did not crop this at all...
i took many shots from different elevations that day, i like your idea so i will experiment with some of those ideas... any feedback or ideas that you have in the future a very welcome!!! i appreciate them more than compliments most of the time!!

hmmm... yeah, it is. i wanted to capture as much contrast as i could with the shadows... if i wanted a color shot, i prob would have shot f-5.6 at ~1/800 for that lighting.

Excellent tones and contrast on this image..which is obviously the emphasis...probably would never have been as dramatic in color.

Another impressive photo... you have such a good eye when it comes to landscapes, nature and lighting in general... it just seems to come naturally to you!
Mr. Adams would be impressed.
