Description
The Legend of the Dogwood TreeOnce upon a time, the dogwood was as mighty as an oak.
Then one day the Roman authorities decided to use it for
the cross of Jesus.
Upon learning this, the tree was seized with sorrow. But
Jesus sensed the agony of the dogwood timbers over the
cruel duty they were forced to perform. Jesus said:
"Because of your sorrow over my suffering, you shall henceforth
grow slender, bent and twisted, so that your wood can never again
be used as a cross. You shall bear blossoms in the shape of a
cross, and on them shall appear a crown of thorns and nail prints
stained with red, so that all who see them will remember that I
carried you to Calvary."
(This was originally meant for the Easter season, but I was only able to get to it last night. This is my
submission for 's spring contest. Both Bushroot and a dogwood seemed quite
appropriate for the theme. I half-copied Bushy from a book (not traced!),
but it's mainly my own innovation.
Media used: Crayola markers, Le Plume II markers, pencil, white paint marker and Sakura pen on manila paper.
If you fave, please comment when possible.

It's okay, as long as you credited me. If not, I won't fuss. Glad you liked it though. Do you still have the video? I'd love to see it.

I love them so much! We tried to grow a dogwood in our yard, but the soil isn't so
hot and the Bakersfield sun burned it up. Where's Bushroot when you really need him?
Thanks for the fave, and glad you enjoyed it! I've always loved the Dogwood Legend,
and it just seemed to suit Bushroot somehow.

Hey I never saw this!
This is beautiful!!
I love the poem and the look on Bushroot as he is admiring the Dogwood Tree. Both the poem and the picture of Bushroot really do go together! Most certainly a favorite!
I really believe in my
that Bushroot and Christ have a lot in common! They were both persecuted and mocked for standing up to what they believed in. All Bushroot wanted in life, was love and understanding. That's really nice!

Thank you! Being a fellow Catholic, I was anxious for you to see that! ^___^ I have loved the dogwood legend for years (though so far I've only seen one dogwood actually in bloom).
I enjoyed making that picture so much! The dogwood legend sounds so much like Reggie, in fact, as we picture the tree feeling sorry for Our Lord's sufferings.
The tragic thing about Bushroot was that even though he was with The Fearsome Five, he was never really of them. But feeling misunderstood, unloved and unappreciated everywhere else, he probably felt he had no choice but to 'hang' with criminals. It's in 'Twin Beaks' that he somewhat redeems himself.
Thanks, and thanks for the fave!

Aww you're very welcome! That picture is special to me, and it is very touching! I can really feel the love in that picture. Thank You for drawing it! Yes, the story of Bushroot is tragic, and he most certainly has suffered at the hands of others. I agree that Bushroot isn't really ONE of them, but I guess belonging to the Five gives him a sense of belonging, if you will. It seems he commits crimes only when pushed (It's a Wonderful Leaf) for example, when he is with the Five, or to feed his plants. Yes, he does redeem himself in Twin Beaks! "The cows are not what they seem!"
I have pictures of my parents dogwood tree in full bloom in White City. That's another thing-when I get the scanner, I will upload it. Or make a copy of it and mail it to ya! It has beautiful pink flowers in the spring and in my backyard I have a pink dogwood and a white dogwood. I love flowering trees, and for the most part, dogwoods are pretty hardy trees.

I would love that! We bought a pink dogwood awhile back, but they don't do well in the dry heat of Bakersfield summers.
Maybe we'll try another one someday.
I loved Bushroot in It's a Wonderful Leaf! I did feel kinda sorry for him, though I didn't like him stealing people's presents. But he was adorable in Slime Okay, You're Okay. Darkwing even had compassion on him and let him make a run for it!
I'm so glad you enjoyed that picture! I hope to get some more manila paper soon; that seems to work out just great for paintings and drawings (so much better than plain white paper)!

Yes, every once in a while, Darkwing Duck will show a wee amount of compassion! Kind of like in Twin Beaks, when he and Bushroot teamed up to defeat the aliens!
Now, to search the photo albums for that dogwood tree.

Speaking of prayers, I just got your bulletin today!
I love those pictures that came with it too, thanks so much for everything!
I like the way St. Mary's bulletin is written out, it looks better than some of my churches'!
And thanks again for putting Beth and Wendell on that prayer list. I'll e-mail my cousin and find out how Beth is doing.
I love accents too (especially European ones! ). But I sound a little bit like Sandy the Squirrel on Spongebob Squarepants!

Marie is in good spirits and since she was a wee sick
last week, her
eye operation was schedule for next week but was pushed into February. They can't operate with an infection. Thank You for praying for her! She was so happy a fellow Darkwing Duck buddy was praying for her! Uncle Walt is scheduled to be operated on tomorrow, so hopefully that tumor isn't cancerous
The tricky part with Uncle Walt is that he is 89 years old and 350 pounds!!!! Thank you for your prayers
I kinda figured you would receive the Church Bulletin today. Did ya see Robert Grimes? We are praying for Aunt Beth and your friend Wendell. Prayers do help and they are quite comforting in any time of need. I just whip out the rosary beeds and start saying those Hail Mary's Full of Graces!! Every Friday afternoon at 12:00, Saint Mary's prays the Angelus which is a set of prayers with Hail Mary's in between.
Accents, I really love Scroogie's accent! I think he has the best accent! By the way, I haven't received my comic book as of yet! If it doesn't come by the end of the week, I'll have to fire off some e-mails!!

I ordered it on e-bay from a comic book store
They e-mailed me and stated they received my check but that was the last I heard from them. My check should have cleared by now
Well, if it doesn't come by Saturday, I am going to start screaming.
I can't wait to read it!!
Your very welcome! And Thank You for keeping Uncle Walt and Marie in your prayers
I hope your Dad feels better was well!
I hate being sick
How did ya like the scene from Marty Warner that was cut out of Days of Blunder? That was kinda cool.

mouselady In reply to LordNegaduck [2007-01-24 17:39:47 +0000 UTC]
That was cute! I think they should have left it in there, though.
Dad's much better, thank God! I was really worried about him because he wasn't eating anything at first.
(If he can eat while he's sick, I don't worry so much since he's at least keeping his strength up. )
But his appetite's coming back and he's not coughing so much. This might have just been a short bug.
Oh, so that's it! Yep, it always takes longer with a check. If you don't have a Paypal account, why not get one? It's much faster that way.
(You get your money faster, too, if you're selling something. Scrooge would LOVE Paypal! $$$$$ )

According to my last bank statement, my check cleared two weeks ago! They can't use that for an excuse
If it doesn't come by the weekend, I am going to light some
Don't they realize how badly I want this comic book? Can't they see it? It's torture! Torture I tell ya!!
So far, I have had good luck with checks, for most of the buyers see my 100% feedback and immediately mail the item. This is the only one where I had to wait! And now that Comic Book store is getting my Irish
up!
I only buy, I have never yet sold anything, but I think I will start to sell my 1978 Mercury Cougar parts I have in the basement. Back in 1987, my father gave me his '78 Mercury Cougar, and my father, my grandfather
and I completely restored it in 1993. We put a new engine in there and replaced many of the parts like radiator, water pump, steering fluid resevior, etc. and then when I saved enough money I took it to my friend Jimmy who installed the new transmission. It was a brand new car when we were done with it!
And I got well over 180,000 miles on that engine, but in 2006 it needed a lot of work and I just didn't have the money, so sadly it was sold for parts!
Speaking of Irish, today was my grandmother's
birthday, this year she's celebrating it in heaven, but on my hard drive at work, today of all days it played "Peggy O'Neill" and that was my grandmother's married name!
And when she was little, her grandfather always
sang Peggy O'Neill
and then she marries an O'Neal!

mouselady In reply to LordNegaduck [2007-01-26 00:02:48 +0000 UTC]
Omigosh! Well, Heaven is the best place to celebrate one's birthday (Disney World would be second runner-up
). But isn't it strange how fate works?
I have mixed luck selling on eBay---they're making more money off me! Sorry about your car, though!
I would trust you to send me a check, but I don't think I'd trust anyone else. I stopped taking checks on eBay some years back, after a buyer's check bounced and I actually had to get the law on her to get my money back. If you paid Media Mail postage, though, that might be why it's taking so long. I think I had to wait about three weeks for my own book.
There was actually a site that had Donald Duck and Scrooge comics on it that you could read, but I think it's been closed down...dang it.
Hang in there---your prize will be that much sweeter when you finally get it!

Nah, your first line was great!
You and me both, sometimes I just don't know the right thing to say, or how to say it
I am very pleased to say, I got the comic book
and I can't wait to read it.
My friend Scott who sold many Darkwing Duck, Negaduck, and Gosalyn clocks on ebay only accepts money orders unless they have excellent feed back. My feedback is 100%, so most of the time the sellers will accept a check from the Duck! My feedback is up to 103! I was so happy to bet an aqua star!
With the car, I feel that the car gave me many, many years of pure driving enjoyment and it really never let me down. It took me to Florida, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and even to Canada many, many times. That car didn't owe me a cent. With gas for it was nearly or over $3.00 a gallon, it was getting very expensive to run. It would only run on 93 octane gasoline. If you put 87 in it, it wouldn't even start!

mouselady In reply to LordNegaduck [2007-01-26 18:24:21 +0000 UTC]
Oh, man! And with the price of gas these days, it would REALLY be expensive! $$$$ (Scrooge would have a fit!
)
Good on you!
My feedback's great too, so your friend would have no problem.
I love using Paypal, though, because it's easier for me and faster.
And I'm so happy you got the comic book!
(And now you've got to get the companion book!
)

Yes, he would!
Isn't that fun? I just discovered that today!
The companion book is The Life and Times of $crooge McDuck Companion. It kinda fills the 'gaps' left by the first book;
for instance, it tells the full story of how Scrooge met Goldie O' Gilt
while he was mining for gold in the Yukon, and their stormy relationship.
(If two people ever deserved each other more... )
š: 0 ā©: 1
LordNegaduck In reply to mouselady [2007-02-01 21:32:21 +0000 UTC]
Well Now, I guess I'll have to get that as well. I guess I can get the companion book on ebay, eh? Scroogie actually had a stormy relationship
with Goldie O'Gilt, eh?
I guess he's into keeping his money and she was into spending his money! Was he singing her the Hall and Oats song
I Can't Go For That!"
š: 0 ā©: 1
mouselady In reply to LordNegaduck [2007-02-02 00:15:00 +0000 UTC]
LOL!!! He certainly couldn't go for that!
Funny thing about Goldie, she was motivated by greed at first, but then she noticed certain little things that suggested he really cared for her...the money didn't seem quite so important after that.
And he was really lonely (he had just lost his mother), even though he was in serious denial about that. I still think they should have gotten married.
Amazon has the companion book too, though you might get a better price on eBay. Though you might be able to find "The Prisoner of White
Agony Creek" in a shorter comic book, though I'd suggest the LTo$ Companion, since it does fill the gaps.

LordNegaduck In reply to mouselady [2007-02-02 04:21:21 +0000 UTC]
I do the same thing, all the time! Don't worry about it!
That's the exact title The Life of $crooge Companion?
That will be some excellent reading! Now, maybe someone will right about Darkwing Duck's childhood--maybe--it sounds like a dream! Maybe Don Rosa would like to take on that project?
Thank You for mentioning that book, I really love comic books! Especially this one! I have never read a biography comic book!
š: 0 ā©: 1
mouselady In reply to LordNegaduck [2007-02-02 21:12:04 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure that I have, either (if memory serves me right). Don Rosa won the Eisner Award for LTo$, and he richly deserved it!!!
I love comics so much! Bakersfield needs to have a really decent comic book store---the only one we've got just has DC and Marvel and like that. The really good ones are out of town. Man, just put $1000 in
my hand and let me loose in one of those places, ah'm comin' out
with both arms full!!!

Well, it sounds like you have another reason to love Vermont
! I can't wait for May to come because, I want to go to the Gremlin Animation Store on Depot Street (Vermont State Highway 11) and the Manchester Depot Comic and Book Store on Depot and Main Streets (Rts Vermont State Highway 7A and 11). Ethel, you would think you had died and went to heaven. They have a whole section devoted to comic books (new and old) books, cds, and dvds! Then
they have a cafe there as well that serves hot chocolate with whipped cream, coffee (No
Irish
Coffee
) tea, and many types of chocolate desserts and
! I love their Chocolate Mousse!
If I get to Manchester Centre in the morning, I alway head straight for the bookstore to get a delicious,
mouthwatering
homemade
fresh out of the oven
hot
apple turnover!
They are sooooooooooo good!!
I'll ask the clerk if he could top it off with some Cabot Whipped Cream! Come on May! Come on May!! Is it May yet???
The Gremlin Animation Store has a nice collection of Pinky and the Brain and many animation cels from cartoons of Disney, WB, Hanna Barbera, and the Simpsons. They are quite pricey. I'm still jealous of Jim and his Carl Barks signed Scroogie!!
Manchester Centre is a very old, restored, bucolic, moutainside Victorian town. All around you is the Green Mountains and the downtown stores are all outlet shoppes!!! Ethel, get your credit card out!! My parents' and their friends Ursula and Jim (the same Jim that loves Goofy and Scroogie) shop at all the name brand outlets like Liz Clairborne, Tommy Hilfiger, Bass Shoes, Timberland, etc. I tell them shop your out, you'll know where I'll be! The Comic Store!!
Yes, you would love Vermont!! The State Slogan is ILOVERMONT!

If that doesn't describe heaven, I don't know what does!
Mountains, scenery, bucolic towns, comic books, chocolate, apple pie, whipped cream, and beer!
Who could ask for anything more??
Well, if I ever hit the lottery, I will send you and your father to the State of Vermont! How's that?? That way you could visit the Duck on his 300 acre farmhouse that would be at least 150 years old, preferrably along the Connecticut River! And we can all go to Manchester for the comic books and chocolate, Weston for the Vermont Country Store, Woodstock for some shopping, hiking, and at Bentley's Irish/Scottish Pub
, and of course Burlington City for the Ri~Ra
I wish Jim could scan it! If I ever visit him in Florida, I will have to take a picture of it!!
When he had it here in New Jersey at his house in White City, I always admired it
He got that when he worked at Walt Disney World as Goofy in the 1970's!!! I am soooooooooooooo jealous!!
