The girls don't get enough credit if you ask me. Then again, they really aren't that fond of modeling for the camera, contrary to the male who seems to really enjoy it.

I love photographing him, too, don't get me wrong. But just the sheer fact that we've watched these girls since they were cubs, in this very zoo, makes seeing them again and again so special, and it's the reason why I always hope to be able to photograph them.

Species: African Lion (Afrikaanse leeuw)

Latin name: Panthera Leo

Originates from Africa and West Asia.

Current status: Vulnerable

…It is the second-largest living Cat, after the Tiger, but the tallest – at the shoulder – of all living cats.

…Lions are the only members of the Cat family to display obvious sexual dimorphism, meaning that males and females look distinctly different.

…Lions in captivity tend to be larger than Lions in the wild.
