What's not to love about a Bearded Tamarin? They have the cutest look, with those moustaches!

They left the zoo for a bit, all individuals... But this year, they came back We didn't get a lot of chances to see them, but this cutie did not mind posing for us luckily

Species: Bearded Emperor Tamarin (Keizertamarin)

Latin name: Saguinus Imperator Subgrisescens

Originates from the southwest Amazon Basin, in east Peru, north Bolivia and the west Brazilian states.

Current status: Least Concern

Did you know:

…They are most notable for their outstanding for their long, white beard which extends to both sides beyond the shoulders.

…It is rumored they were named for their likeness to German emperor Wilhelm II.

…The Bearded Emperor Tamarin is different from the Black-Chinned Emperor Tamarin for the description in its name – the Bearded has an actual white beard to accompany the white moustache, where the Black-Chinned only has som black hair on its chin. There’s also some color variation in the arms, belly and chest.

…Baby Emperor Tamarins are born without a moustache, and due to their large fetal weight and the high chance of twins or multiples, the dominant female and mother has “helpers” who assist her in taking care of her babies. They can be both female and male, though males have been noted to spend the most time with babies.
