Where: Wildlands Emmen, The Netherlands

We'd heard a lot about this zoo, and most of it wasn't good. Not because it's a bad zoo - not in the slightest. But because it doesn't fit in the mold of what a zoo should be like. The collection of animals wasn't special enough, they didn't like that it was part amusement park part zoo and you know, it's a zoo geared towards the welfare of the animals while showing them in a natural habitat. Hardly any glass or fencing. What's not to love, you'd think?
I haven't figured out what it was exactly. I fell in love with the place, though it's quite a drive from where we live. All the negativity rubbed off, and the zoo is changing, and I'm curious to see where it will lead.
I hope the African Lions won't go anywhere, and that their habitat won't change too much. These huge rocks are amazing, and the cats love them too!

Species: African Lion (Afrikaanse leeuw)

Latin name: Panthera Leo

Originates from Africa and West Asia.

Current status: Vulnerable

…Lions are the only members of the Cat family to display obvious sexual dimorphism, meaning that males and females look distinctly different.
