Description When: August 26, 2018
Where: BestZOO Best, The Netherlands

I find these birds realy quite cute to  be honest, but it's hard to capture them in a nice way because it's very much a zoo space they're in. But sitting nearly on the floor, it looks cool - even though he does have domesticated coloring, it serves as decent camouflage

EDITED TO ADD: I got the identity all wrong I really should pay closer attention to identity boards, in case Zootierliste doesn't list an animal. This is not a Monk Parakeet but a Pacific Parrotlet - thank you everyone who helped right this wrong

Species: Pacific Parrotlet (Blauwe muspapegaai)

Latin name: Forpus Coelestis

Originates from northwestern Ecuador and Peru.

Current status: Least Concern

Did you know:

…They are also known as Lesson’s Parrotlet of Celestial Parrotlet.

…They are sexually dimorphic. Males have a bright cobalt rump with blue patches on the tail and undersides of the wings They also have lighter, yellow-green faces. Females are mostly green with dull blue patches behind the eyes.

…Pacific Parrotlets in captivity know many different color mutations, in which they also maintain sexual dimorphism.

This is a beautiful shot!! And seconding what other people have said, this is definitely the natural coloring of a Forpus coelestis (pacific parrotlet) they're native to Ecuador and Peru
My best friend is a little white one named Amelia <3

I had no idea

I didn't photograph the identity board so rely on a website that lists European zoos' collections. This was as close as I got, and it being an older photo, well

I will update the info

Thanks

Lovely shot! But that tiny baby is a male Pacific Parrotlet. : > they're teeny-tiny, feisty parrots in the Psittacidae family!  Males have the pretty blue coloring by their eyes naturally. Monk parakeets are about twice the size of a parrotlet.

Hehe, thank you for pointing that out! I forgot to check out the identity board at the zoo, and I use this site that lists European zoos' collection and this was as close as it got to identifying him. Still got it completely wrong though

I'm going to change it right away!
