Description A few of the concepts that I created in search of the perfect interpretation of the kin from the Deltora Quest series. Using the description from the books and listing the characteristics, I was able to create my own version of the kin.

Assuming Emily Rodda based these creatures loosely off of kangaroos (the pouch), I started from there and added details from all the books that mentioned them, such as how they were mistaken as dragons at some point in time.

Eventually I found a design that I was satisfied with, and showed how I thought of the kin fairly accurately. The final design is accompanied by screenshots of the anime version kin for comparison.

This is beautiful! Clearly a lot of thought has been put into it. I would prefer this to the one one in the anime :I

Thank you!

Yes, the anime version did leave a lot to be desired. :/

Your welcome ^^

It's better than nothing at least. There are some pretty interesting moments in the Anime that didn't happen in the books (Sorcerer Oacus or something was a very badass villain).

This is really pretty close to how I imagine them when reading the books as a kid. Actually, in all truths, I basically imagined a huge brown kangaroo slash lion kind of creature with wings. I don't know where I got the lion idea from but then again, I was eleven when I first started reading the series, so my imagination was a little skewed. But definitely not as skewed as the creator/animators of the anime imaginations were when they came up with their final design for the Kin.
Anyway, love it!

In the show, it said they had tough scaly hides...But I like your concept better, since it looks more realistic.

The book, which the show is based from, describes them exactly as I have listed on there. Honestly, the show was totally off in quite a few cases. xD

You can find them online if you can't find any in store.

Amazon.com is a great place to find all the books cheap.

Gah... I love them all~

It makes a lot of sense to base them off kangaroo, sort of like kangaroo-dragons, I guess...

When I first read the books I always imagined the kin to be more plump and wombatty for some reason... God, knows why... XD

(I also love that you went and got descriptions from the books, it makes me feel like I'm not the only crazy DQ fan around... )

Kangaroo-dragons was pretty much exactly what I was aiming for. xD
Hence why they have sorta rodent-y like features. c:

Haha, I couldn't imagine how a wombat with wings would manage to get airborne. x'D

I admit it, i'm obsessed with DQ. But i'm happy to say I am a proud fan of the series! (And that includes every book and the show!) Actually, it's more a lifestyle than anything else!

Well, let me be the first to say you pulled kangaroo-dragons off PERFECTLY~

I love the rodenty features. Kangaroos are oddly delicate like that, aren't they?

I know, when I saw these drawings I wondered what on earth I was thinking, imagining them as wombats... Kangaroos make much more sense for take-offs, the legs would give them some spring to their steps. Nice work, mate~

Hi, I'm Jack and I'm a DQ-aholic... XD

I might own all the books and DVDS... And some merchandise... And I once made my own life-size Belt of Deltora... But I think it's still not enough...

Haha, thankyou! xD

It was also the "slender front paws" which made me think kangaroo- since, you know, they have delicate little front paws compared to their back legs. xD

I think everybody has odd interpretations at the first read of something. Second time around you see more details and such, though. xD

Now we need a DQ-Anonymous group.
...
But that would be pretty awesome. Just saying. :D

You're more than welcome, mate~

Yeah, I know. Kangaroo makes perfect sense, I have NO idea where I got wombat from... XD

Oooh~ Someone should seriously start a DQ-Anonymous group. XD
