they are a type of character from the old White Wolf rpg called Werewolf the Apocalypse... they are the tribe of werewolves that have been corrupted into madness and darkness. Many of them have mutated away from a strict human/wolf spectrum and have bat wings for forearms or bat ears and generally fit this style really nicely...

And yissim! He can indeed ;D The only things that are different about his raven form though is he keeps his crest, and kinda looks like a jay/jackdaw in that regard. Aaand he doesn't have the sigil feathers in his raven form either, but his eyes do stay orange. THE MORE YOU KNOW.
