Description
Completed version of the WIP I uploaded earlier. This is my own take on The Riddler from the Batman series. I was sort of wondering what he would look like if he was in the Nolan-verse, seeing as how he could be a likely candidate to appear in the next Batman movie, but you never know, right? I gave him a green suit, but it is really really dark, so it'd look black in certain lighting. My scanner screws up some colors, but he is supposed to be wearing a lime-green pinstripe shirt. He has a purple tie with a squiggly pattern on it that resembles question marks, and I gave him brown leather gloves. He still has his hat, which I think would fit him anyway if he existed in real life. And, his hair is a reddish-brown with green eyes.A disclaimer: I never was really into American comics when I was young, especially super-hero comics. I didn't even really watch the Batman television series. I did, however, see the movies, but that was a very long time ago and I never was a big fan of cartoony live-action films. However, since seeing Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, I've had a change of heart towards American comics in general, and I'm trying to learn more about the Batman universe. It's rather fun. And, no, I do not consider myself "jumping on the bandwagon". Movies impact me a lot!
Anyway, this was my take on The Riddler, aka Edward Nygma (E. Nygma, lol). Before drawing him, I first read the Wikipedia article on him, just to get a good idea of who he is, what his backstory is, and what he does. Based on what I read (and also what is common knowledge to everyone, even if you don't read the comics) it seems to me that if The Riddler existed (or was in one of Nolan's films) he'd resemble the Zodiac Killer in the way that he'd send letters to police or the press that he wrote that would be seemingly mindless riddles that would need to be solved and deciphered, except, of course, the letters would involve other crimes other than murders, and he wouldn't be a serial killer, either. His crimes would involve the usual ones seen in Batman, such as robberies, kidnappings, ect. I could see him as being slightly more sane than the Joker and more suave with his manners, but not afraid to get his hands dirty. Where the Joker's trademark in TDK was slicing and painting his victim's faces and leaving Joker cards at the site, the Riddler would leave letters, notes, maybe even writings on walls, all riddles, and of course, his trademark symbol would be the question mark.
Bleh, sorry for rambling so much! I guess I got carried away with my thoughts!

Oh, thanks! I was just inspired by the question of what if he was to be the next villain in Nolan's films. Him or Black Mask, that's what I think.

The only problem I find about having the Black Mask in the next film would be all the flashbacks. I like the idea of the Riddler being in the next film because it would be nice for Batman to fight with his mind rather than with his fists. Not to mension the Riddlers death traps on a Nolan scale.

Well, either would be pretty awesome, but Black Mask would be good to see after having the Joker. Some people might accuse the Riddler of being too similar to the Joker, ya know? And I do think that Bruce needs some more personal challenges.

Black mask would be good seeings how he's just ... I don't know how to explain it without him sounding too much like Mistah J's character in comparrison to Batman. With the Riddler it depends on whose interpretation you use, there's Frank Gorshin who Jim Carrey based his Riddler on then there's the animated Riddler who is intellegant. My recon is the Nolen will use the intellegant type rather than the insane psycho, which will differ to Mistah J as his way of thinking is more chaos than itellegance. Do you recon there might be a new love interest in the third film?

Hm, I'm not sure. I'm not very knowledgeable on the world of Batman (I'm just now trying to educate myself) so I don't know what love interests were in the series. However, Rachel Dawes was made specifically for the films, so . . . well, maybe they will use someone from the comics for the next film if they have a love interest at all.

The only person I can think of would be CatWoman, but I doubt they'll use her becuase it will end up too similar to Batman Returns. But maybe a mension would be nice. Did you like Rachel at all?

Rachel? Meh, not particularly, though I did like the RachelxHarvey pairing. Ironic, yes, I know. She may not be a favorite character of mine, but I still have written about her and drawn her.

I have to agree, the RachelxHarvey pairing is rather cute but I'm not so keen on Bruce's liking for her, and she's just really annoying. She's like the damsel in distress in those movies where they get in the way of everything and always need saving. Or maybe it's just jealousy. Is it possible to be jealous of a fictional character?

Yes, it is possible, I'd assume. And, she's not always the "damsel in distress" even though she does get captured by the villain and has to be rescued by Batman. She did bravely stand up to those two thugs in "Batman Begins" with a tazer! lol But, hm, I can't really explain why I don't like her too much. It's something I just don't know.

She tazered the Scarecrow didn't she? That might be why. Dr Jonathon Crane didn't get enough time as the Scarecrow and when he did finally become the Scarecrow he gets tazered by Rachel.

Yes, she does tazer him at the end. And, remember, he gets a cameo at the beginning of "The Dark Knight". He never got caught by the police after "BB", apparently.

Hopefully he gets a cameo in Batman 3 aswell. What would also be cool is if Two-Face gets one too. I can imagine it now. Batman walking through Arkham passing Harvey's door, as harvey sits there in white pjs flipping his coin.

Oh yay, You're on. Now I can comment this again.
I like the suit, and the way you colored it.
The only sad is that the black swirlies are like.. eaten a little in the tie
I have a suggestion. .maybe you could add the same pattern to like.. the brim of the hat? =3
The face looks good too. I think the two main contenders for the role are Johnny Depp and David Tennant.. just in case you might wanna make it look more like one of them if you draw Riddler again =3

Bleh, my scanner made a lot of the colors weird, so that's one reason why the squigglies kind of disappeared. It shows too much texture with colored pencil. >_<
I think I will draw the Riddler again, together with Black Mask, but I'm not sure I want to use a likeness of already-existing people as a basis. This is more of my own vision on what I would think would be a believable design for the Riddler if he was in the next film. But, it won't hurt for me to look into it, right?

But seriously, this piece rocks. I love how you made him look, his intense expression. Can't wait for Black Mask!

Oh! Smarts! That would be a great costume for him!
Oh! You know Mr. Reece right? *you should! lol*
apparently alot of people think he's Riddler just because of his name ... *Mr. Reece = Mysteries*
I'm not so sure myself. Either it's true or a nice coincidence lol.

Ah, yeah, I heard about that while I was reading the Wikipedia article on the Riddler! It was thought the guy who played Coleman Reese would be the Riddler in the third movie, but then he got cast in TDK.
Heh, that's funny!

Riddler!!!
I do wonder if they'll make a new maovie with Mr. R himself. if they do, I'll be more anxious on who'll play his role.
Awesome drawing! i love it!

It's okay if you never liked the series before. To be quite honest I didn't either. But that's what the movies are made for: to attract a new generation to something that's been around without them knowing how great it can be. Some may consider it bandwagon, but I consider it a movie doing it's job well.
Now, onto the picture. I really like it (but what else is new?). I think the dark green is a good choice seeing as it's supposed to be Nolan-verse Riddler. Gives him the dark style Nolan has, but still looks right on him and keeps his original look. The tie was a nice touch, I didn't even notice that it could look like question marks lol And he DEFINITELY still needs the hat. It's just a must, no matter what. Overall very well done.
...Now that I think about it, this is the only TDK-inspired piece I've seen that wasn't a spin on Harley Quinn. Not that I'm complaining or anything, I like her and all. Way to be original!

Thanks! I tried to make it still obvious that it was the Riddler, but try to be more realistic with the look. I'm drawing Black Mask next, and that's going to be a challenge to get to look right!

I heard of him before, but never saw him until I checked out this Batman comic from the library called "War Crimes" a month ago. He seems like a likely candidate for the next film. For once, Bruce Wayne needs someone to challenge him, not only Batman. I read the basic info on Black Mask on Wikipedia, and it sounds like that could make a really cool conflict! Black Mask (aka Roman Sionis) would have a grudge against Bruce Wayne, and then once Batman comes in to stop him from his crime-spree, BM then goes after Batman! Bruce wouldn't be safe no matter which alias he uses! And in danger from the same guy who also has two aliases! That would be interesting! We never saw anyone with a grudge against Bruce himself in the other films, so that'd be a nice change of pace.
