Description
Yep, so I've been a little slow-with-the-updates lately on the Zerg front, but I haven't given up! So the beginnings of the air units...(No-one remind me about Broodlings, by the way, I do know they're still missing . . .)
I think it's a little spherical overall, but I had fun with it.

Fantastic work, as always! Your technical skills are always mind-blowing, you render form perfectly and do wonderful color variations. And I love how you can take a small sprite and a few picture references and manage to turn it in to a detailed and believable creature!
As far as critique goes, I just think that perhaps going for a more bloated, grotesque look (Like you had with the larvae, infestor, and baneling) would help add to the creepiness of the zerg, rather than just making them giant bugs. If something's cool and dangerous looking, it's a creature. But if it's visually disturbing, it's a monster.
Overall though, great work! Can't wait to see the rest of the series! e.deviantart.com/emoticons/b/b⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="

Cheers; tis much appreciated.
It's a fine line I'm trying to tread with the zerg as to the mood I'm trying to get across, but generally I agree with you here; I don't think I quite captured the right feelβI don't think the overlords should be especially grotesque as such, but they do need to convey a sense of their power and control over the swarm. Hopefully there won't be such a gap before the next one.

really vibrant colors, probably playing on the color system in star craft, love the details, and sense of depth you create with atmosphere
on a side note i always hated the overlords cause they seem so cool but they cant do jack they r like the minivans of zerg! maybe i just dont play starcraft right....

I'm a big fan of your Zerg art.

Ah man I saw all your zerg work last year on another site. This image inspired me to try and learn to paint digitally myself, my rather less successful attempt is actually on here. This and the Larvae, I love the pinks and purples.
You are truely awesome Mr Jack.
So cool to be working on sc2 (or worked on).

Awesome piece of zerg
By the way, does Sketchbook Pro work better for lineworks? you always seem to move your work from sketchbook to photoshop during process

I actually use it less these days than I used to, but it's got a really smooth feeling for doing linework and sketching that Photoshop doesn't quite match.

I always think the big glowy sac things on their sides are eyes in game, even though I know they aren't. They just look like eyes...
I also can't take them seriously anymore. Their 3D portraits in SC2 beta, have you seen them? -peer, peer, lick lick- bahaha. I just think Overlords are like puppies now. XD

If you look at the new revised Overlord, it looks more or less like that except less bloated with gas and without those huge pincer things hanging down...Still cool

They still do have their arms and claws , as always I did over-bloat this one a little though I think.
