Description
At the end of each prolonged battle, Lt. Calliban has always either produced (in colder environments) a thermal flask filled with sweet, milky tea with an appropriate (and somehow still unbroken) cup and saucer or (in all other environments) two smaller frosted flasks, a piece of citrus and (most baffling of all) ice cubes to enjoy ( and share with squad mates when at all possible) an appropriate post sortie beverage. I suppose, on some level it would constitute drinking on the job (or just after) but it comes across so proper when she does it and doesn't seem to alter her behaviour. If the commissar notices, she doesn't seem to begrudge her this ritual. I have heard that there is an weird loophole in Catachan regimental doctrines wherein the burning of obscura can technically be considered sacred incense. Who knows? I know I'd follow her into battle regardless.Unknown incredibly parentheses-happy guardsmen.
***********************
I dunno if this ones that well drawn or funny or whatever. Super glad to be drawing Wesk again though. I feel for her, on this level. I feel like she's often giving paragraphs worth of answers to questions nobody actually asked.

I imagine her as a less flitty but more intelligent Tracer from Overwatch... maybe slightly huskierΒ in tone and I imagine herΒ F's and PH's are a little drawn out because of her teeth.

Actually no. Sidney Sedin is who I would get for Lockwood, I think Cara Theobold, but with a more public school accent would be about right.

Cara Theobold is who I envision for Lockwood, I imagine Wesk having a more southern English toffee-ish accent, with the f's as you described.

I must admit to being a little confused across the two responses as you listed two actresses for Lockwood.

Siden for Lockwood, Theobold for Wesk.

Okay, that's what I thought but clarification seemed prudent haha. Apparently I need to watch Snatch again because I can't find any clips of Siden simply speaking. And Theobold plus your affectations is definitely in my head for Wesk now.
But please tell me that C-16's speech is across between LeeLoo Dallas in fifth element (before she learns english) as well as Lady Rainicorn from Adventure Time.

One of my unconfirmed ships, and I realise this is weird, Is I kinda ship her and Stoner. I think, thanks to your evocative writing that despite the language barrier they get eachother in ways that all others fail to.
I am pumped to do her spotlight some day. But there are so many I gotta do.
I really need to live a long time.

Oh I don't think that's remotely strange, you've summed up essentially what I've tried to convey; Magpie just genuinely doesn't seem to think that she's strange, being fairly educated for a Catachan he understands the concepts of both PTSD and ethnocentrism; being from Catachan as well I imagine Daal gets along fairly well with C-16 as well.

Mr-Culexus In reply to AkandofHarakon [2017-10-09 11:07:12 +0000 UTC]
Daal gets along with everyone, basically. It's one of the reasons she gets less screen time. But she's meant to be just crazily likeable. Very sanguine.
Even the Neuehoffs. Even Jacobi.

AkandofHarakon In reply to Mr-Culexus [2017-10-09 11:26:28 +0000 UTC]
That seems to be a Catachan trait, as in most cases I feel Magpie is at least begrudgingly liked by even the stoics.

And their appearance in novels.
A ship is being evacuated and the main characters are about to be sealed out of an escape ship, when two random Catachans jump up and physically hold a hydraulic bulkhead open. They don't even know them. They're just like that.

I remember that Ciaphas Cain novel. Reread that codex earlier and it definitely corroborates the "Good Samaritan" archetype of all Catachans.
