Description
These concepts were on my mind, in sketchbooks, sketched comics and in the case of Bok, actually made it to the comic ( the original comic was a once off, and so Bok's species and gender was indeterminate, but I had it in my mind that he was a girl) all that was important was that he/she look unimpressive.Levy was orignally more based on Captain Sturn (the Heavy metal one, not DOW) and was at once more bluff and soldierly but also a far, far worse person. As is all that remains is his being flippant and arrogant (Its also where I got the name as Eugene Levy did Captain Sturns voice.)
I do like the look though.
It occurs to me that some of my viewers may have prefered macho Raege. Certainly, it could have been fun, but I dunno.

femme Bok actually looks pretty fine the male and female differences in look are small but still doesn't make the two look identical making him look good as either one instead of slightly off or crazy looking as either one
the macho Raege personality would probably be better for the funnies and not much else in my opinion rather than be set in stone as her actual and permanent personality

female Bok has an odd charm the male lacks. I suspect its my disposition towards women with big teeth.

Hmm, fun. It's always cool to look back on the original concepts for characters and think "I wonder what that would have been like" or "what the warp was I thinking?" There are so many of my characters that do not look like they did in the original sketch in any way, shape, or form. One of them only has her original eye color left.
That said, I think that the final concepts that made it into your stuff are improvements or neutral. Bok's gender could probably be changed pretty easily and no one would notice. Darraj looks so much more awesome bald. It would be interesting to see what MANLY Levy was like, but I think I like his silly foppish self too much. And I am a total fan of asexual militant Raege.

Obviously we guys would like a chauvanistic Raege. We can relate to her better, of course.
And Boone, darling: dont act like you dont enjoy it.

Overall I think you made the right choice with Levy by a long freaking shot, and as for Raege? You definitely went the right way, she is just a much better character this way.

cool, that's part of what makes you a good artist, you value the opinions of those who look at your art....also, being able to write cool characters then portray their full range of emotions through expression, clothes, and minor details, but the listening to (readers?) is definitely an important part.

You realize you've opened the floodgates to the fetishists with Bok and Raege?
Nevertheless, they're amusing. I get the feeling that Levy would have punched out all these damn heretics.

Pssh. Like anyone still looks at my work. Glad you find them amusing, though.
levy, as we know him has had some fairly decent, even punchy adventures (and unlike THIS one, no rape, pimping or selling drugs while disguised as a sororita) though certainly less rugged than this one, all the same.

That version of Raege, Boone would have enjoyed more.
Manly Levy? Impossible.

Boone does fancy Raege, certainly, but she fancies her partially because of her being taciturn and soldierly. Inscrutible. Stoic. Boone may wish for action from Raege, but not at the expense of her acting differently.
There are many ways to be manly. This version of Levy, could bench press more, certainly, but was a far bigger coward.

Vlaskiyov In reply to Mr-Culexus [2011-01-20 00:12:53 +0000 UTC]
Intersting, so this other version would be more advancing but would lose the qualties which Boone finds attractive.
Ah so he's essentially this is the "Cain" version of Levy. Have you seen the muscles on that commissar?!

Mr-Culexus In reply to Vlaskiyov [2011-01-20 02:40:01 +0000 UTC]
I've seen the muscles on his disasterously inaccurate portraits that shows him single handedly wielding a boltgun, when he always uses a laspistol.
My own image of Cain, is of wirey, spry man. Broad shoulder and muscled, but rangy. As maneuverable physically as he is verbally. Not a colossus.
This version of Levy was basically just 40k Captain steeeeern.

I try to imagine modern inquisitor Levy angry, and I mean truly, wholly pissed, but even then he would seem terrifying, but not manly...I recently dropped the hammer on the accoloyts in a DH game and I realized. Inquisitors can be friggin scary when fully stated and invoked.

Vlaskiyov In reply to Sirwilson95 [2011-01-20 07:30:23 +0000 UTC]
Scary? You mean utterly terrifying.
They have the power to render worlds unto dust and oblivion. The power to send millions of soldiers and equipment into a war to find one target. They are trully terrible and somewhat necessary instruments of His Majesty's Imperium.

Sirwilson95 In reply to Vlaskiyov [2011-01-20 13:49:26 +0000 UTC]
and I had my inquisitor pinning a normally wealthy arrogant ass to the wall with an augmentic arm, beating his having rolled an 18 out of 43 strength while threatening to liquidate his assets, strip him down, put him in a penal legion and then, after six months have him taken to the mecanicus and transformed into a servitor (or servo scull if he dies) and then ensure that as a servitor he is assigned the worst servitor jobs in the Imperium.... if I remember right the character soiled himself

and I mean to say not Macho manly, we havn't seen enough of his inquisitor form for me to be sure, but I've seen some relatively manly moments in the Cases of Hives things before me thinks. I don't know but I find something manly about whirling around and sucker punching a close friend in the gut hard enough to presumably break ones hand while shouting "SON OF A BITCH!"

Cylexus [2011-01-18 16:36:36 +0000 UTC]
Well this is entertaining.
However, a chauvinistic Raege wouldnt make any sense. Her whole character is based around being a calculated soldier - inspiring others to fight, or in the case of Gustav - a person/reason to fight for - all to make them better at their jobs. Rather than good for goodness sake.
Though saying that, Raege is wonderfully complex, as implied by Cuddles' comment in that same comic. I believe much of her complexity would be lost if she was just some Chauvinisticly sexy Macho Woman Commissar.
Would be funny though.

You understand completely, crazy. Certainly it could be amusing, but really OOC, so baring extenuating circumstances or a dream sequence, it's unlikely. However it would not be a pleasent dream. Boone does fancy Raege, certainly, but she fancies her partially because of her being taciturn and soldierly. Inscrutible. Stoic. Boone may wish for action from Raege, but not at the expense of her acting differently.
