Description
Sometimes I wish that I would've waited a little longer to start using Daz...or at least start investing a lot of money into buying models, costumes, hairstyles, etc. for Daz! I started using when the Genesis 3 models were the top of the line; I think it was these models that ultimately made me want to try my hand at Daz Studio and create my OC's in 3D.
However, just a few months after I dove in head first, the Genesis 8 models made their debut. And when I saw the first Gen 8 models...namely Victoria 8....I wasn't all that impressed. I was still all in for using Genesis 3 models and have since amassed quite a few characters. Yet, over time I noticed that the Gen 8 models started looking better and better. Nothing against the Gen 3 models; there's a reason why many of the base characters have Gen 8 versions of Gen 3 characters. (ie Victoria/Olympia/Monique 7 for Victoria/Olympia/Monique 8)
But, the most recent Gen 8 characters look absolutely amazing and realistic! And I have found myself using more Gen 8 models than Gen 3. Many of my earlier renders that I posted had models created with a Gen 3 character...including these renders of Deuce which still look amazing! (I used Phoenix for V7 if you're interested www.daz3d.com/fw-phoenix-hd-fo… )
However, I've been fiddling around and making Gen 8 versions of my OC's...and here's my take on the heroic cyborg gunslinger herself! I started out using the same suit that I used for the first version, but thought that this one was better suited for her...and boy was I right! She looks a bit more sinister and menacing than her G3 version, but still badass nonetheless! That armor really pulls her look together!
What do you think?

I think that also, as you get more experience with the software, you can make the shots look better and better. That said, the Gen 8 models looked very promising at first even though they didn't seem to bring more to the table than Gen 3. I figured it would be a matter of time before they really showed what it can do.
Then again I use it a bit differently, so one model is (almost) as good as the next.

True...even though I started using Gen 3 models when I first started using Daz 2 years ago, my current skill level looks WAAAAAAAAY better than my first few renders. While the Gen 8 models are amazing, I also realize that lighting can make or break a render and I've since invested in some cool light sets and resources.
But yeah...those Gen 8 models are sooooo lifelike! I thought that the Gen 3 models were super realistic!
And I'm guessing that you use the model for pose references for your drawings, right? If so, that's what I initially wanted to do...however, I got sucked into the machine and have spent WAAAAAAAAAY too much money buying stuff for Daz!

Yeah, I use them as pose references. They're great when you have multiple characters or a background. No more building insane grids to figure out perspective. It's such a cheat.
But I totally understand the lure of using them in place of a drawing. Not just the lighting and effects, but the level of detail today is crazy. The models, their skin and hair, the outfits have super levels of details (even using them as a reference, who wants to draw chain mail when the renderer can do it for you in minutes?) and the backgrounds are amazing. I think that in twenty years (and maybe much sooner) a good percentage of comics and cartoons will be created by writers who no longer need artists and artists who no longer need pencils.
