Description
The smallest of the Behemoths, the Dwarf or Forest Behemoth is often the largest herbivores in their forest environment. However, unlike other behemoths they are more vulnerable to predators, even as adults. For this reason their armour is more extensive and their tail is much longer and more muscular than that of their larger relatives. The armour on the tail has been adapted into thick, heavy spikes, making the tail an even more effective weapon. The tail can also be used to prop up the animal in a tripod stance allowing them to use their long, raking claws on the forelimbs to both pull branches down for feeding and as weapons against predators such as the formidable bear-like Drop-Cats.Forest Behemoths are often mythologised as Forest Guardians, and as such are held in high regard by many. However, there are also many that have no qualms with hunting them, since they are much less imposing than the larger species that are basically off-limits due to their size alone. Forest Behemoths have actually been wiped out in many regions due to this, which in turn means the refuges for this creature are fiercely protected by those that revere them.

I wanted to go for a different vibe for this second Behemoth species. In keeping with the fairly consistent prehistoric vibe present in my creature designs and as a contrast to the Paraceratherium-inspired Firefields Behemoth www.deviantart.com/mrcreator30… , I looked at ground sloths and stegosaurs for this guy (as well as extant sloths and anteaters for inspiration on the markings and fur).
