Another Troll concept for the Very Angry Princess universe. I wanted to base this one more on tardigrades, as their indestructible properties fit the troll very well in my opinion. Im not sure how much that influence is actually apparent in this design itself, but i am happy with how it turned out regardless.
Like with the first troll concept www.deviantart.com/mrcreator30… , I imagine these guys to be the setting's equivalent to bears, with this version the turning to stone myth would be a process like hibernation which kicks in when a troll has sustained near-fatal injuries or found itself in an unfavourable environment. The troll's body would become encased in a near impenetrable stony shell and would remain that way until conditions become more favourable or the creature's wounds heal. In this state a troll can survive almost indefinitely, so it is not unheard of for boulders that have been part of the landscape for decades or even millennia to "wake up" into fully-formed - and very hungry - Trolls.
