Description
Today we are going to discuss one of Onyx's main abilities. When I set out to great this character I wanted to make a effort to not make her Wonder Woman, or so damn strong you as a reader have this feeling she cannot be beaten. And as such, I wanted her to be strong, but not Pre Crisis Superman strong either. So I decided to tackle this in two different ways.

Step 1
For this I referenced the gospel that was the classic HANDBOOK OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE Class 100 strength tree. And real quick, for those not in the know, back in the 80's Marvel Comics released a fantastic company wide character reference series ( DC COMICS had the WHO's WHO series) And one of the highlights for me was a very simplefied list for bench press strength levels. With Characters listed like classic Namor, Iron Man, Thor and of course The Hulk, were in the fabled Class 100 level, aka 100 tons and fan favorites like Captain America were on the lowest end of Super Human strenght ( just shy of 1 ton I believe?)

With that knowledge in my back pocket I wanted to place Onyx in powerhouse range, and still leave room for her to run into far superior strength levels as her career progessed. And I found my sweet spot...The ever lovin Blue Eye THING, Benjamin J Grimm was a great power template, While he was the FF's resident strong guy, he was not as strong as half of the roster of The MightyAvengers at one point in his career, yet when he yelled IT'S CLOBBERIN' TIME, there was little doubt he was about to bring the pain hardcore to the brain!

And for those at home still playing at home, that was a solid 85 tons ( as of 1985-ish..not sure what he is maxing out these days)! That is strong enough to be a certified powerhouse like she is meant to be, but she could get to the 2nd round in a unlimited class level arm wrestling tournament but a dark horse to win it all, unless she turns her hat backwards...then all bets are off ( hehehe just kidding...)

Step 2
So i had her power level set, but...I took the next step and made the world she lives in play a role. I removed ANY forms of Magic, and characters such as Superman, and Wonder Woman. In Onyx's world, Tech reigns supreme and as such the only way to fly is by man made inventions, no capes and pointing in this world, and no magic words with bolts of lightning.

In the absense of extreme super human abilities...Onyx finds herself among the strongets indivdulas in her world as a result. Addition by substraction my friends

DID YOU KNOW...

1) Indi is super strong regardless of which form she is in! So while in her human form, she retains all he PHYSICAL abilities, just not the durability and endurance bumps she gets when she armors up. So while she can lift a car as 'normal', if the car explodes and sets her on fire, she will suffer the same injuries as a normal human....sort of. ( dun dun duuuun)

2) Onyx has seen her strenght levels spike in certain circumstances of stress. With her bonded alien the main source of her gifts it is unknown if she is tapping into previously unlocked power levels or if this was isolated incidents or adrenline burts.
