Description
(Drawing: 10/2018; graphite; 28 x 43 cm)Length: 5 m/ Weight: 320 kg./ Age: Early Cretaceous, early Barremian (130 mya)
(Info. Source: The Princeton Field Guide to Dinosaurs, 2nd Edition, G.S. Paul)
Potentially feathered, this carchardontosaur had an unusual sail-like structure on its back, reminiscent of Ichthyovenator's sail in shape. There is still ongoing debate on whether or not the ulnar bumps on the lower fore limbs represent quill knobs like those found in maniraptorans.
Art Notes:
When going for a feathered look, I decided to go with quills on the forelimbs since fully vaned feathers are unknown outside of maniraptorans.
