if the MG's were beefed up to 20mm or 30mm cannons, I could see this replacing the CIWS Phalanx.

Yea, it's mainly used for a basic defense system against lower tech enemies. dual 30mm cannons would probably have looked nicer.

Oh, so more of an affordable AP/AM or "Shock & Awe" weapon. Very well, that would also be good.
