I do hate it when it comes with time travel, no matter what you do even the smallest changes causes the biggest change. Like what happened in the Simpsons Halloween episode Time and Punishment when Homer went back in time during the dinosaur age. I know the whole butterfly effect, but I still hate how even the smallest changes can change the future so badly when it comes with time travel.

Makes you wonder, what the hell happened in that one timeline for there to be such barren nothingness?

Starlight's utopia.
When she strips a pony of their cutiemark, they lose a large part of their racial abilities as well. It's been clearly shown that the world around ponies is heavily maintained by them and that maintenance is mostly done by ponies with cutiemarks in those fields. strip them of that ability by removing their mark the population loses the majority of its control over the world.
This would naturally lead to one of two things hapenning, either the world becomes like the only other part of the known Equestria where the world runs itself, the Everfree, or it dies. Considering the concerns Celestia had concerning Tirek's literal power grab, I suspect the latter would occur given time.
Considering every other iteration was a different premiere villain unchecked it makes sense that her turn would come eventually.

Well, two things, it's pretty clear that she doesn't actually return like Twilight does to the original location in the time stream. Otherwise she would have known everything went to hell every time she stopped Dash. So she did have more time.
Second, it doesn't take long for everything to go to crap in MLP. Life there seems to run at 2.5X speed.
