I love the idea of Spaceballs getting an animated series, but what we got felt more like it was produced by Seltzer and Friedberg than Mel Brooks. So here is how I would fix it:

1) Pick up where the movie left off.
The first mistake the show made was simply both rehashing and retconning the movie (i.e. Lone Star no longer being a prince and keeping the Schwartz ring). Therefore, I would start off where the movie left off, with Lone Star and Vespa being married and possibly starting a family.

2) Have better humor.
I know the jokes in the movie weren't exactly high brow, but the show's jokes were more juvenile than the movie, relying heavily on toilet humor and pop culture references. Speaking of which....

3) Keep the show's references to science fiction.

As previously mentioned, the show's "humor" relied heavily on pop culture references. I know the movie did too, but it still kept the sci-fi theme. The show, on the other hand had references not just to science fiction, but also to whatever was popular at the time (i.e. The Lord of the Rings, Spider-Man, Grand Theft Auto).

4) Have better animation.

This one speaks for itself.
