Description This image took me some hours to make.
Basically it was easy, but because of the size I had photoshop nearly crashing on me LOL
The image is idk 150cm long or something but only 20cm wide.
It shows things which kinda influenced me a lot during my childhood.
I was born 1986 but I barely remember the 80s. I mostly was a child of the 90s being a kid there of an age of 4 - 14 basically.
Maybe some of the shown things already existed in the 80s and some indeed still exist and you still can buy them!
But these things I kinda grew up with, some I never liked and they still influenced me, some I had them in masses or loved and consumed them X3

Food:

Mint Milka: basically something only known in Germany, it is chocolate with a peppermint cream inside and there was a funny advertisement on TV where an old white bearded guy said "It's cool man!" it just was hilarious!

Open and Drink limonades: pure sugar, but colorful and every kid loved them because they were sweet like candy XD

Diamond pops: or ring pops which are a simple plastic ring with an oversized sugar pop diamond on them. Was available in different colors.

Maggi fix products: my parents used them a lot (not always but many times) there even were kid's soups with noodles which had a certain shape like disney figures and other stuff. Today we don´t buy such things anymore because I think cooking with fresh and whole products is better than using cooking powders like these XD

Chocolate Cigarets: in the 90s the kids wanted to play cool adult and this was kinda a way to imitate them XD But the chocolate was awful XD

Ahoj Brause: it is some sugar flavored powder you could eat by itself or put into water and drink like a limonade. My grandma had this and when I was thirsty I often used to drink it with just water XD

Jelly monsters: those small wine gums in shape of colorful monsters were a bit more jelly than normal wine gums, that´s why they were put in those plastic/alluminium shells. I think they already existed in the 80s but I ate them in the 90s.

Magnum double: today you get it in different falvors, but it first appeared in the 90s as Magnum Double which was with caramel cream only. It is a vanilla cream popsicle covered with dark chocolate, then with caramel cream and another thicker dark chocolate surface around it. I loved it! They still have it but today the Magnum popsicles are smaller in size and the price is bigger I think.

Calippo: the only popsicle you could get in cola flavor and it kinda was put into a plastic-card thing so you won´t lose anything, even when it melts XD

Winegum yarn: you got it in any color you want, you also got it in shape like flat linguine with sour sugar on it.

Chupa Chups tongue painter: those lollipops are able to paint your tongue. I loved the blue one XD

Frufoo: this was a kid's desert joghurt think it was available only in one type of flavor. The funny thing about it was the shape of the bowl which was round like a doughnut and in the middle was a small space for a small toy.

Frufoo ufos: which were coming out a year later or so. Small chocolate ufos filled with strawberry joghurt. I loved them! They also had some sort of toy in the box.

Pom-Bär: These chips are made out of cheap corn powder and some spices. They are tasty but nothing really special compared to the price they are sold. The special thing was that the shape was like a funny looking bear.

Bum-Bum: this popsicle is the weirdest popsicle I know. You still can buy it in Germany.
The inners is I think some sort of vanilla ice cream but the reddish cover is some weird tasting sweet fat thing or fondant or something, hard to say, it also could be white chocolate which was dyed red but not sure. But that´s not all! The blue stick where the ice was put on in real is a bubblegum. You could unwrap it after you ate the ice and chew it. So you kinda have ice and bubblegum in one.

Fanta pink grapefruit: I loved these when it cake out in the late 90s. Sadly they never returned it.

Cherry Coke: think it already existed in the 80s, but in the 90s it kinda had a small revival with those oddly designed bottles. I didn´t like it because of the design. I thought it was not coca-cola but something different and didn´t understand why the kids at school loved it more than the original XD Later I found out that cherry coke IS from coca-cola otl XD

TV shows and Movies:

Hey Arnold: This TV show (think it was from Disney) was so SO weird. I don´t know, I watched it but hated it because I think when it came, there wasn´t anything better on TV so kinda had no much choice watching this stuff. I didn´t like the look of the characters and couldn´t relate to them either XD But I saw that was kinda on TV all the time when I had time to watch TV and it was annoying.

Rugrats: I kinda loved this show, dunno why. I kinda always interpreted them to be some sort of disney weasels. Like Tommy was Smart Guy the boss, Chucky was Greasy, his best friend, Phil and Lil were Psycho and Stupid. Idk it was just weird. XD

The jungle book the series: was an anime series which aired around the 90s really often. I even had a short cut version of it as a whole movie.

Animals of Farthing Wood: anime series made in Europe in the 80s but it aired every day on German TV during the whole 90s and I basically grew up with it and learned to love weasels and foxes XD

Geh auf's Ganze: is a game show where people see 3 misterious doors with different prizes behind it but also with one bad thing, the so called Zonk which was a red and grey furred mouse plushie, so the losers won´t go out of the show with empty hands XD

Familien-Duell: that was a game show where two families played against eachother. My parents and my grandmother watched it all the time at lunch time. It did bore me LOL

Bitte Lächeln: was a really dumb show in the 90s where two moderators talked about video clips of people who were in pitty situations. Like those silly home-video clips where someone falls down a roof or something like that.

Ein Schloss am Wörthersee: a daily soap or something like that. I never really watched it but the intro of the soap kinda kept in my memories, like when I lived in Nuremberg we went to the so called "Wöhrder-see which was a lake there and I always thought the "Wöhrder-see" was the same lake because I didn´t hear the differences in the words Wöhrder-see and Wörther-see.

Neues vom Süderhof: was a kid's and youth soap of children of various age who lived on a small farm with animals near Hamburg or something. I watched it sometimes because I liked to see the animals.

Schloss Einstein: is a kid's soap which still is aired but started in the late 90s. I remember my grandmother liked it and wanted me to watch it but it totally bored me LOL The thing is about children between 10 and 15 who go to the smale school which is called Schloss Einstein. Today the series still exist but in Erfurt  and in a more modern looking school called Einstein Gymnasium. idk but I liked the old episodes more. I started to watch the series when I was already 15 because when I was younger the typical couth stuff didn´t interest me in the least.

Marienhof: was another german daily soap or something about youth and young adults. I only remember the intro of it but it kinda ran all the time, even the intro song was in the radios at that time. Typical 90s heartache song LOL

Gute Zeiten schlechte Zeiten: is a german daily soap which still aires every day. I never liked it but my mom watched it in the 90s nearly every day and got angry when my dad wanted to watch something else XD

Jumanji: a really nice and interesting movie. Basically I like most movies with Robbin Williams, but this movie is my favorite. I loved it because of the animals when I was a kid but I still like to watch it today.

MiB or Men in Black: God I LOVED that movie when I saw it the first time. At that time I was already 12, wearing short hair and dressing like a boy (I am transgender to those who don´t know) and I saw these guys as some kind of idol back then XD I wanted to wear such stuff, black shoes, black watch and all that.

Independence day: A movie I also like pretty much. My dad had it ad VHS but I watched it way later when I was used to watch mostly bruthal movies with the son of my dad's wife. He loved that creepy and violent stuff like Terminator2 and some other stuff.
However, I liked this movie, he wanted to watch it and didn´t like it as much, maybe because there is not much blood and violence.

Waterworld: I knew this movie since 1997 or something, don´t remember but I watched it with my parents. Later I watched it again at the children's house because they had it there and I had a flashback to my childhood when my family was still "a family" you know XD when parents divorce nothing is like it was before.
Okay, still like this movie. But I like most movies with Kevin Costner, he kinda is like an idol for me in his roles.

Star Wars Episode1: well back then in 1998 it was THAT movie! There basically was nothing else which got more attention that this stuff.
Franchize everywhere it was so damn annoying XD
I liked Jarjar Binks, the guy everyone hates LOL so weird XD

The Lion King 1 and 2: When the first Lion King movie came out, it was really a cool thing at primary school because we went to the cinemas because of it which we usually never did XD There also was a lot of franchize of it. Plushies, figures, glasses and other stuff. I had many plastic figures and a plushie I think. I also had a wired Timon plushie with a plastic head XD Then in Nuremberg in the clinic I watched the second part the first time and I was so so DAMN angry that there were no hyenas in it. They were my most favorite characters of the first movie.

Herkules: another disney movie which aired the first time in the late 90s. I kinda loved that movie. I was a fan of the songs, the pegasus and of Pain and Panic because they are just too hilarious XD I even had a small pegasus figurine. Sadly there never was much merch about it in germany.

Free Willy: there was some sort of Orca Mania back then in the 90s since Free Willy came out. I had part one and two as VHS, I had nearly everything of orca whales you could get XD Especially plastic figures. I also had a plushie from Steiff, still have it.

Music:

Pur CDs: Basically knew Abenteuerland from my dad because around 1996 he heard this music in our car when we drove somewhere and he sung the songs XD
Later when I lived in Nuremberg in the clinic there was a girl sharing the room with me and had these two CDs, Abenteuerland and Live die Zweite. I listened them ALL THE TIME because they inspired me so much to draw my characters Wiesli and Wusli and I could relate to the song texts so much.

Ace of Base: a shwedish pop group who had this song "Live is a flower" in summer 1998. I loved that song so much.

My heart will go on: that, no, THAT love song 1998/99 LOL you could hear it everywhere in the radios, see it on TV. I kinda love that song still because eventhough I cannot relate to the story, the song made me kinda long to get my emotions out like that which was impossible to me back then because people tried to make me quiet.

Bravo Hits: never paid much attention to those CD mixes because often I didn´t even like the music on it but the year 98 and 99 had many songs which kinda were good and which influenced me in art and style and which kinda represented my character. I liked songs from Take-that, Robbie Williams, Liquido and Loona or the Spice girls and Aqua. The best songs always were those which were the first 10 or so on the CDs, the rest was mostly techno and rnb or rap which totally didn´t interest me.

Eurodance: Music like from DJ Bobo, Roxette and Dr. Alban was my favorite music when I was younger. But I was too small to keep their names in mind or even to understand the song and the title LOL I only remembered some songs because they became famous and when I was older I could buy their CDs. Eurodance was the electronic type of music which kinda was a bit more easy to compose than the techno music.

Formel1: was a TV show which showed music videos from various musicians and music which was popular back then. They also had some CDs with said music mixed on it.

Just the Best: is something similar like Bravo Hits, a CD with various artists on it which were active and had great hits back then. I only knew the shown CDs and the songs kinda inspired me too. But I must say the first CD is much better than the second one.

Rio de Raneiro: really weird looking CD I know but in 1997 my dad had this CD and we heard the music the whole summer LOL to be honest, i do not know what to think about the cover because when I was a pre-puberty girl back then I didn´t identify myself with such women, I didn´t really identify myself with females in general.

Toys:

90s My little Pony: they came out in the 80s but when I was younger I had so many of them, mostly the 80s look but 90s release MLPs which often were with rainbow colored manes and some better prints. I also loved the baby playselts a lot. I always wanted the seahorses but they were not released in germany.

Barbies: sure Barbie is OLD but in the 90s there were so colorful ones. I had so many, mostly just loved them for the colorful things like the Ski-Barbie, the Barbie with the Casette and the Rockstar Barbie. I also had one which could get a different hair color when dipped in hot water or something and I freaking LOVED everything for the bath tub so i had divers and mermaids too XD I loved the Arielle with the baby Orca and the diver with the orca. I still have the small and the big orca.
I also loved Barbie horses, more than the barbies itself because once I put off the clothes I had trouble to dress them again so I often only played with the animals and the things the barbies came with XD I had that jointed leg horse but sadly it often lost parts of the legs easily. Was a bit phragile.

Keypers: I had many of those, the small kitty, a big penguin and a big horse. Think I also had the small dog but don´t remember. I kinda loved their glitter eyes. And the fact that you could hide small treasures in the bigger ones.

Jurassic Park: I loved those dino figures. I watched the first movie in the 90s but it was a bit too creepy for me, but I loved the raptors LOl weird I know when i say i find it creepy. However I had like two or 3 raptors and a few other smaller ones.

Puppy and Kitty Surprise: I don´t know how many I had of them, think one dog and one cat. I kinda loved birth giving toys because I found them so funny and interesting. I even had a barbie or steffi which could give birth XD

Steiff plushies: I had this Steiff orca but also many other Steiff plushies and some from Kösen which were really expensive plushies.

Puppy and Kitty in my Pocket: these small plastic figures were basically made to collect and trade like trading cards. They were kinda a big deal in 1996 or so when I was still in elementry school and I loved them. I had the big house and many of these little figures XD

Playmobil: I had so much of it but by far my favorites of them were the killerwhale and the dolphin and the shark playsets because you could use them so nicely in the bathtub X3

Polly Pocket: I guess everyone remembers these small pocket boxes. In the next century they became bigger. But it started with those really small figures and the small boxes which represented the tiny world the figures live in. I had like 20 or so of these in different sizes and shapes. I also had the light up houses.

Meine kleine Tierwelt (Littlest Pet shop) : Dunno if it was known in the US too. It even had an own cartoon series XD I loved it really badly, I had nearly every playset you could get. The next generation with the fur and the ugly oversized heads were not my taste.

Hotwheels: small cars with some type of road you could click into eachother. I didn´t have that much of them but I had one I really liked which had a water tub at the end and the cars changed the colors when being put into water XD

Safari ltd dinosaur figures: I had so freaking many dinosaur figures because I loved the Land before Time movies. But I loved the safari ltd figures the most because they were made most accurately and life-like. I had all the big ones like brachio, apato and diplodocus XD
I also liked the other animals of the toy line, especially the montery bay ones.

Baby Born: that was kinda a thing in our school and at my friends that every fucking person of my friends had one and I saw this stuff on TV too. I was like 8 or something. Finally i gave in and wanted one too and I got one. I played with it a few times and then it bored me XD

Action man: the pondont to barbie. Where girls played with barbie, boys had now a toy too which is called Action man. There even was a villain called Dr. X or so XD I loved to mainly play with the animals which came along with him.

Clothes, Styles and Trends:

Oilily: Basically clothes for girls only because they were always really colorful and floral in design. I loved colorful clothes eversince, so i liked these too XD
They were expensive, I didn´t have too many, maybe one or two dresses, a shirt and I remember some colorful wide pants and a jacket or something.
They also made some lipsticks which tasted like fruits (I ate one of them once) and I had parfum of it too XD

Choker chains or tatto chains/collars: these plastic things were such a big trend in the late 90s. I never had one because it was a girl's thing and around this time I knew I wanted to be male already so I avoided everything for girls heavily! I did see many maaaaany girls wearing those. Maybe because the plastic things were cheap XD Today you see them again, they returned D:

electronic jojos: Unlike tamagotchis which were a really big trend, these were rather unknown. Or they never became a cult object. In the late 90s they were everywhere on TV.  I remember kids came into our shop asking for them and my grandma says they don´t sell such a garbage type of toy XD
They could make sounds and had flash up light effects in them too, they also could stay low for a few seconds and you could play tricks with them.
I saw them in commercials on TV all the time.
But I never had one, they kinda were not interesting for me.

Youth magazines: I only remember those because when I lived with my dad and his wife, that woman insisted me to read them and be interested into that girl's stuff. The two i did show here were magazines for girls who are around 16. I was 12 LOL However I am transgender and never was interested into the girl stuff anyway so the stuff young teen girls like were not really something which cought my eye anyway. I just found it weird when she appeard with such a magazine and said "Look, this is for someone like your age and gender, have a look at it, it is quite nice and may teach you what a girl of your age is interested in". I just was like "WTF? I do not need that!"

Wide ankle jeans: in the late 90s I noticed that especially girls suddenly did wear jeans which were tight but around the ankles they were long and extremely wide. It always reminded me on those horses who have a lot of hair on the ankles which gives them some extra floofy feet XD
I just found them weird looking. Later I heard they were a redesign of the 70s pants people did wear in discos. I just found them ugly as fuck.
I am glad I never got threatened to wear such pants D:

G-Shock watches: these watches were a really big trend in the late 90s. The older people had a normal G-shock and the kids and youth could wear a smaller version called "Baby-G". My dad had a normal black G-shock similar to the one in the image and Florian (the son of my dad's wife) had a red one. I wanted one too. But in the long run I am glad I never got one because I am sure I was forced to wear a super girly one in pastel colors or something -.-
Today I actually have one too but in black and red which looks a bit like a racing car cockpit design.

Buffalo Classics: These weird looking Plateau shoes were such a HUGE trend in the late 90s. I think even one of the Spice girls did wear them in the videos. Mostly worn by girls I thought they were a girl's thing. The originals were expensive back then and so I got some which were not the originals and were even uglier than the originals LOL I kinda hated them back then because I associated them with another girl's trend. But they weren´t. These shows were made for unisex looks, you got them in typical girl's pastel and white colors but also in dark, black and brown and so on, and in different shapes, just the plateau gummy always had the same shape. The sizes were also really big ranged from small kid's versions to men sizes. I just never saw any male people wearing them here. Today I have some of them myself and it doesn´t look girly at all. The girly look only comes when you wear those weird horse jeans with them in combination which really happened a LOT back in the late 90s.

Diddl Mouse: This was a trend thing in the late 90s too. First I think it was just plushies. People suddenly had a so called Diddl Maus, which was a plush toy. Then when I went to school in Schwabach, the kids and youths there did collect papers with diddl mouses on them. You could buy whole books with these papers. They were notebooks or something and every sheet had these designs in the corner. There were notebooks of different sizes and with different designs and people traded the sheets like gold LOL They even had folders with plastic sheets in them where they could put those papers in to have them safe. Really stupid to trade empty sheets of paper. I found the diddl mouse designs ugly anyway, didn´t like the look of the figures and so I never had anything of the stuff.

-----------------------------------------

Okay, that´s it.
I did miss a few thing but before my PC crashes or anything I won´t add those anymore XD
I would love to have added more like tamagotchi, Gameboy, Pokemon and those small plastic charms in shape of dolphins, pops and so on but forgot about them sadly.
I also didn´t put Disney cartoons here either because most of the Disney series are from the 80s and not the 90s and the newer 90s series I didn´t watch as much.

So yeah, really big influence map of the 90s XD
Very colorful.
I guess you see where my colorful art comes from XD

Wow, I loved all those cartoons and movies and also Littlest Pet Shop, Puppy in my Pocket and Puppy Surprise. I've tracked down a few vintage toys I wasn't able to get as a kid.

I seriously do not really remember many things I did NOT get LOL
Really when it came to toys i was rich when I was a kid, i nearly got everything I wanted. But maybe also because my parents had a toy shop. It was not hard for me to get toys.
There were a few things I also wanted. I remember the big montery bay whales from safari ltd in the late 90s I wanted. I had the beluga but I accidantly dropped it and the tail fin broke off D:
I also wanted an otter from Kösen or was it Steiff? I could swear it was Kösen but I don´t find any images of the old toyline of them anymore. They were expensive and I never had one of the bigger Kösen toys as a kid. I know I had a rather big and really beautiful ermine plushie, think it was from Kösen but I do not find it online either. I loved it and got it for my 12. Birthday I think but the wife of my dad threw it away with all the other stuff my mom brough me  when I was in the clinic in Nuremberg. She could visit me once and brought me lots of stuff.
But when i got out of the clinic back to that hell-household they took all the things from me again and didn´t say what they do with them. I never saw them anymore. I asume they threw them away.
However, I remember there was a board game I wanted so so badly, it was with self made clay figures which had to go through a kind of parqour and it could happen that they got squeezed or torn apart or something. I saw that commercial on TV for years but we didn´t have this game in our shop and my parents didn´t know it either so I never got it.

That's awesome they owned a toy shop! It must've been fun getting all those toys! My parents weren't rich at all but they or my grandparents did get me most of the toys I wanted. There were some we just couldn't find though so I got them on eBay years later. Mostly vintage Littlest Pet Shop. I really wanted the Hamster Circus but we could never find it. I bought a lot of about 7 sets of still boxed (thought second hand used but in good condition) a few years back on eBay and so my collection was complete. And it included Hamster Circus!
That's terrible they were thrown away though I find it so cruel when parents throw away kids toys.

MrWolf86 In reply to Silvolf [2017-09-15 08:59:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, when these are not used anymore I could understand the parent's thoughts but it is still the property of the kid and when it is not damaged, why then throwing away?
Especially behind the kid's back, it is cruel and just low in my eyes.
That woman just didn´t want these things to influence me or so, she saw it as a trigger for my "abnormal" behavior or something, so it had to be withdrawn from me.
But the only way to withdraw these interests from me would have been if she removed my brain LOL that´s not possible but the things only existed in my live because I had this interest in my brain. I bought or created these things because I made the decition I want to have them in my life before I even know that I could buy them or so. It is dumb to think that an interest goes away when you don´t let your kid play these things anymore.
I also had so many littles petshop toys, I even watched the TV show XD
I loved the orca family but I also had the Bethoven family which appeared shortly after the second movie came out XD
I also loved the horses.

I agree.
I watched the TV show too! I'm glad you remember it. I loved it. I don't think there are episodes online, only of the new Littlest Pet Shop cartoon.
I remember the Beethoven family too and yes the horses were really nice as well. I have the pet shop itself but I never managed to get the zoo playset.

I had a few of the zoo playsets. I remember I had the monkey, the panda, the zebra and I think there was a big cat too like a cheetah or tiger, don´t remember now.
I didn´t have that many of the normal pet shop but I had the running mice, the hamsters, the rabbits in the garden, the turtle, the birds, the frogs, the duck family, the aquarium with fishes and one or two horse playsets.
I nearly had the whole ice world with the orcas, the seal, the huskys and the walrus and the penguins. I didn´t have the icebears though.
I find it sad there never were foxes or ferrets or something XD
They did show only a few episodes on TV back then in german, I don´t know how many episodes or even seasons it had.

I have a cheetah and a bobcat and a couple of seals. I have a playset with a polar bear and penguins too.
I have all this except the turtles, frogs and ducks. I have a couple of the light up sets too. Cats and huskies.
That's true, there weren't. I have a ferret but he's from the newer series of LPS, not the old ones. I think the TV show had two seasons. One of my friends has managed to rustle up some episodes for me on DVD. I will buy them off him and see what they are.

Maybe in Germany they only showed the first season but not sure.
I liked Cleo (think that was her name) that cat in the series. She reminded me a bit on a weasel I think. Usually I often prefer male characters to see as an idol or so but I didn´t like the male character's designs too much and that overly girly rabbit was annoying XD
The light-up ice world with the huskies was definitely one of my faves. It could be that I had the one with the cats too but I am not sure.

Yes Cleo was the cat. I liked her too and Stu the dog. Viv was the bunny and she sang in each episode. The horse was Chet and he HATED being called cute and small. It's amazing how much I remember. The lizard belonging to the pet store owner was called Delilah. She kept trying to eat the Littlest Pets.
I love those. I recently looked them out to take out the batteries so they didn't leak in them.
