Description I'm not sure if anyone else has made a stamp like this but I haven't seen one myself.

Anyways, I've liked vampire novels way before Twilight showed up into the scene and I find it depressing how now a days if you say you like vampires people assume it means you're a Twilight fan. Well, I'm not a Twilight fan (actually I rather dislike the books) but I still like vampires so I made this stamp.

UPDATE: Sep/13th/2010

Just thought I should say... I have/and still do read all the comments. Sorry for the lack of reply on my part.

Thank you so much for this! I've been a very loyal vampire fan and its sad to see people think you automatically like Twilight (granted, I did read the books, so I can criticize them legitimately ). I'm still a fan of vampires and as far as I'm concerned, that's never going to change. Thank you again for this.

I hate when I talk about vampires and werewolves and people assume I like the Twilight series! It's soooo annoying!!!! Real vampire don't sparkle

I don't think theres anything wrong with a vampire falling in love...

I just think, that if you're going to make a vampire romance make the guy into a REAL vampire and not a sparkly-emo-wannabe who happens to like sucking neck.

I even understand the whole modern vampire thing, about making them more appealing.... but there's just some things you cant mess with. *shakes head*

But that's just my opinion

JadeLiChen In reply to MsGataki [2010-10-24 05:42:48 +0000 UTC]

The "making them more appealing" isn't really that new. It's been going on since before 1990's at the very least. There's at least a few remakes of the Dracula film where Dracula himself is seen being attractive and alluring. It was done with the Interview with a Vampire film as well, the vampires were seen as something desirable.

MsGataki In reply to JadeLiChen [2010-10-24 21:44:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I’ve seen many documentaries about the β€œevolution” of vampires. Personally I have nothing against making them more appealing. I actually think that the fact that the vampire monster has changed to keep up with the times, is one of the reasons why it has remained so popular. In comparison you can look at the werewolf who hasn’t really changed as much, and therefore has not become as popular as vampires (though I’m sure some people will argue that). The main change I find in most werewolf books now is that werewolves no longer only change during the full moon but at will. Of course you can bring out some other changes too, but they aren’t really as prominent as that of the vampires.

What bothers me about the twilight vampires is that Meyer’s has changed (or rather destroyed and completely disregarded) some of the key ingredients that make a vampire a well… vampire! Just one example is that sparkling in the sun thing. Vampires don’t have to burst into flames when they go in the sun, but they should in some form be harmed by it. Even if it’s being burned by it, or having it drain their powers and energy, or even making them turn old and weak, something harmful. And don’t get me started on the whole β€œnot drinking human blood” stuff.
The truth is that Meyer’s vampires are more fairy folk than vampires.

All very good points. Disliking the sparkle thing on vampires is more than understandable.

The werewolf changing at will now rather than just the full moon makes more sense if you think about it. The legend of the werewolf does come from the legend of the Shape-Shifter. I honestly like the interpretation of being able to change into other animals besides wolves. Wolves are cool and all, but I personally like tigers better. Of course that's just me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MsGataki In reply to JadeLiChen [2010-10-25 16:50:22 +0000 UTC]

I agree, though there are many different types of shifter legends out there. There are the skin walkers for example, and there are some that can turn into any animal and others that can only turn into one animal.
But I like how now they don't only have wereWOLVES but weretigers, wereleopards, and other type of wereanimals.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JadeLiChen In reply to MsGataki [2010-10-26 04:07:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, slowly but surely the weres are getting their share of the popularity. As long as they don't glitter, I think they'll be okay (unless its done for comedy purposes).

And it is nice having other wereanimals for a change besides the wolves. Of course, it's best to keep things realistic. As much as I love dolphins, I don't think they would make real good wereanimals. If a good writer can pull it off, I'll give them credit, though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MsGataki In reply to JadeLiChen [2010-10-26 13:09:03 +0000 UTC]

Once again I agree.
I've read books were they have wereswans and wererats. I have to admit I like this book series a lot (and the wereswans and wererats aren't the main wereanimals in the series,) but I think there has to be limits to what a wereanimal can to be. If there aren't limits then we'll eventually have a even more sparkle-loving-twilight-wannabe author showing up in the future.

I don't know, I picture a wereanimal as a mammal and a carnivore... for me fish = mermaids and mermen, not werefolk.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JadeLiChen In reply to MsGataki [2010-10-27 05:19:15 +0000 UTC]

lol. True, true. That's why I said were-dolphins would be a bad idea to begin with. I just try not to stay too close minded, just like with most things, fiction included, you have to keep an open mind.

And from what it sounds like, you've read the Anita Blake series. That's were I first read about were-leopards and rats and so forth. Have you read any of the latest books in the series, however? The ones were the basic plot at this point is how many men she can do it with?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MsGataki In reply to JadeLiChen [2010-10-27 13:02:33 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha... you got it!
And yeah, I'm still reading the series. But I'm not very happy on where it has gone since plot has gone sorta crazy with all the men. I heard that Laurel K. Hamilton hired people to write with her and that's why the book suddenly changed to this. I don't know it that's true or not though, since I haven't looked into it.
I also don't like Anita's personality anymore, she's so whiny.
"Oh sad little me... all these hot amazing men love me! Oh why do they all have to love me????" >____> That sorta pisses me off.

The only actual reason I still read the books is because I like some of the male characters so I want to see what happens to them. I don't really care about the rest anymore.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JadeLiChen In reply to MsGataki [2010-10-29 04:12:46 +0000 UTC]

lol. I haven't touched the books in a VERY long time. Not since their downfall. I know what you mean about some of the male characters, though. I used to be such an Asher fan girl, too. I wanna kill LKH for what she did to him!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MsGataki In reply to JadeLiChen [2010-10-29 13:29:37 +0000 UTC]

I like Requiem, (I also like) Asher, London, and the brothers Wicked and Truth.
DDDD= But in one of the newer books Requiem says he wants to leave 'cause Anita doesn't love him. And Wicked and Truth are just "extras" for her. And London is scared of her powers to possess him (and also an extra) and yeah, poor Asher.
Oh, and I can't forget Edward... but thank the stars he isn't a lover or anything. I just don't like the girl he married.

I used to be such an Anita fan, now I'm more into Dark-Hunters and other books.
But I still want to see how Anita Blake will end... I got this far and I must do it for the men! >=[ *sends angry mail to Laurel K. Hamilton*

So the fact they were once human doesn't mean anything? There's nothing wrong with the vampire romance dear, just because Twilight got it wrong doesn't mean others will. True Blood is a fine example of the romance being done right and they still act like vampires. Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer is another example, he was a vampire, but his love for Buffy was pretty well known.

I can go on if you like, I'm an old school vampire fan so I know a great deal of the romances involving vampires that low and behold can still act like vampires. As much as this might surprise you, not all vampire stories are as black and white as you might think they are.

I'm an old school vampire fan too.

it's called folklore, read some. There is no romance. Vampires behave similar to zombies.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JadeLiChen In reply to Vovina-de-Micaloz [2010-10-25 02:54:53 +0000 UTC]

I'm quiet familiar with folklore, not only do I have tons of books on various folklore (including vampires) I minored in it in college.

True, the old myths have them similar to zombies, but we're talking fictional work here, stories, novels, books, tv shows, etc. There's nothing wrong with interpretation. Bram Stoker only took some of these legends and put them to use in his famous novel. And keep mind, while not in love, Dracula was obsessed with Mina.

The role of the sympathetic or anti-hero vampire isn't that new either. In the 1800's, there was a novel published by the title of "Varney the Vampire" in which the vampire is the tragic character. In fact, this novel even predates the Dracula novel.

All I'm trying to say is that you really shouldn't knock an interpretation without giving it a fair shot first. Again, True Blood is a fine example of vampires being themselves with the aspect of the romance working in a realistic way.

Her older books are amazing, but given the situation that kept her from writing from so long, I'm more than sympathetic. Watching your mom die of cancer is a bit much to take in.

I just want to see Strange Fate published already, I'm going to probably yell out "My precious!" the second I get my hands on it in the book store.
