Okay. I did this back in 2000... back in the era I generally hold as "ugh". And this piece I look at and go "UGH." And I completed it in a rush in the middle of a fever. So why in the sweaty hell am I putting it up if I feel that way about it? It's eight damn years old...

(Well, the text was redone, like half an hour ago. I'm actually using the same font David Willis had made for his webcomic Shortpacked! . The original was smaller-rez, and the "full" version had no actual text on it.)

Because it was one of three grand prize winners in SNK Japan's second "SNK vs Capcom" art contest. That's why the rush... I wanted to make the deadline. Which is why there's no shading on the "card" characters, and only on the four kids from the Neo-Geo Pocket game... but it does kinda make them less "real".

But yeah. This won. I was baffled. I wish I still had the translation of the judge's comments... but there was something about "connections between characters Japanese people just wouldn't see"... which I'm guessing is referring to King and Vega, if not just character CHOICE. I went obscure.

My submissions to the first contest were better technically I think... but weaker in concept, I admit. I'll accept winning through concept more than artistic merit anyday. Also, I was the only one to use the kids from the crossover Card Battle game.

(On that note... why a second contest? SNK forgot to put a rule in the first that your submission had to have both an SNK AND a Capcom character. ha ha. I'd also like to point out that I had the only piece using Cham-Cham in the first contest... second? She was all over the place.)

So yeah. This is mainly here as a trophy.
