Once again, I don't really know what to say about this picture other than I was board with my OC elite and I love this awesome background, so I decided to put him in their.P.S. I just finished playing ODST (I waited to get it cuz the prises were high at the time) and I noticed that the ONLY time you saw an elite in the this game was in a dark corner of the streets...and they were already dead...

Even with the watermark, signature, and all that, I still think this is an amazing piece. Nice work, man.

*sigh* I remember a time where this wonderful picture didn't have a watermark or blaringly visible signature...
Oh, what men will do with anonymity...

I would think a Sangheili would disable the lights of his/her armor to prevent visual detection. Note: Armor colours similar to Starcraft 2's Spectre sniper unit, armor also somewhat Cybran/Ceph.
Just a mention I've noticed about this certain Sangheili's legs.
...His legs seem more Turian that Sangheili.
Sangheili legs have the bend-to-back a bit shorter, and make the legs resemble Z-shape.
Turian legs are more like what is portrayed on your Sangheili.
This leads me to assume that he lost his legs and ended up receiving Turian ones.

Firstly, I appreciate your comments on my drawing. I like to hear the feedback.
However, I have never played either of those games that you've mentioned being Starcraft and Mass Effect. I looked up those things that you've mentioned to know what you're talking about. I must say that even in the history of Halo, Bungie and 343i have been changing their concept designs on the Elite/Sangheili characters through out the Halo trilogy. www.totalvideogames.com/img/up…
I base my elites' on the Halo Reach concepts. img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20…
I know next to nothing about Mass Effect and its characters.
Also, This elite isn't trying to be invisible. Keeping the lights on is just what the drawing is all about; showing off the armor. They don't have to be invisible 24-7.
As for the armor itself, I designed it all without any references. If you find that this armor looks similar to another, I can assure you that I have not played Starcraft or Mass Effect as you mentioned. Black and red have always been the "bad guy" look and appeal. Even with Marvel's Spider-man some enemies where colored black and red. Darth Maul from Star Wars is also black and red. Just to name a few. So, why should my character be discriminated for its armor coloration?

I did not discriminate your character as of colouration. (Cybran and the Spectre (unit) are not proper enemies)
I only mentioned that his legs didn't look quite like how a Sangheili is usually portrayed: img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20…
Notice the Z in the leg shape.
fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/201…
Note the L shape on the Turian's foot (the back of the foot is not on the ground, the upper leg is human-like).
muddytiger.deviantart.com/art/… = Elite upper torso + Turian legs.
The armor itself reminds me of the Cybran (Supreme Commander)

Again, we could just look at the awesome Mass Effect Terminus Assault Armor, because it's also similar...

I understand what you're saying. But you must understand that this is simply how I draw my versions of Halo Elites. If you have ever played the very first Halo: Combat Evolved, you can see that there is the Z shape that you mentioned. Then Halo Reach came out and the legs and feet changed dramatically in design from the original game. I understand that you would like to see me draw the Elite legs more Z-like, but I don't feel comfortable drawing them that way.
I have a lot of 'watchers' here on DA and people like the style that I have in drawing Elites. I will draw them as I please regardless of what the shape of the legs look like. I believe that there are many different styles, and mine is just one of them. I have seen people draw Elite faces so 'badly' compared to the game design, that I have to hold back on comments like this to spare them in their inability or lack of drawing skills to draw such a thing. This is just the way we draw things. I'm not an employee of 343i, I'm just a civilian-fan of their Elite characters. I can't master someone else's style so easily; I have my own style and I love what I do. My 'watchers' are proof that they love me and my art, too.
However, I did see some resemblance in the last link that you showed regarding the armor. Unfortunately, there are only so many ways to draw armor for the same anatomy before patterns are repeated in armor design. I can't help but to draw original armor that looks similar to another piece in a different part of the world. But thank you for informing me about it.
I hope you'll see that my style is something that I cannot change, nor do I intend to change it.
Thank you for your critics, but I'm not going to change my style of drawing Halo Elites. I feel comfortable drawing them this way, even if you disagree.

Understandable. But if you look at the Halo 2 / Halo 4 elites, their leg armor is actually almost the same. Right down to the 'combat-sports boots'. If you end up accidentally making Z'er shaped legs, probably keep them for variety (more Turian-like if the Sangheili was born near humans, more Sangheili-like if not, more Cov-Rem (Halo 4) if born in a space ship).
Well, I'm going to experiment soon on Turian/Sangheili hybrids... In Powerpoint.
Thank you.

MuddyTiger In reply to Koldraxon [2014-08-20 23:07:29 +0000 UTC]
okay. Well, I'm not so sure why I need to give an explanation to the shape of the leg based on where they were born. Even looking at humans we have different body-types and skin tones based on where we come from. I don't think that the shape of the leg is going to be explained to the extreme measures of inherited influence based on where they were born. Even though that is the case with the adaption process of evolution. (if you believe that kind of stuff) Just because they weren't born on their home planet won't have that extreme evolutionary adaption to where they reside in just in the legs alone, ya know? LOL You're funny.
If you want to have bios like that, then be my guest. I'm just going to stick with what I have for now.
Good luck with your experiment. If you want to mention me or quote me from this conversation as a ref or talk-subject, then I'm fine with it. Perhaps I'll mention you a little later with an experiment of my own.
I'm drawing different kinds of Elite females. I'll see if I can change the leg shape on one of them and see what the people think.
Later.

If you read Halo: Ghosts of Onyx, there is a scene where the Elites use Kig-Yar shields as well as their own. So, I really like this. Plus, the armor just looks badass in general!

SolarSentry [2012-08-26 13:53:25 +0000 UTC]
This is amazing, but a true Sangheili would never use an arm mounted shield as if he were some lesser Kig-Yar. There's no honor in it.

MuddyTiger In reply to SolarSentry [2012-08-28 21:05:44 +0000 UTC]
So, you're saying that there is no honor in having an additional shield? There is no shame in being protected with an arm shield, even if the other, lower, classes have them too.

Colton3227 In reply to MuddyTiger [2012-09-09 02:20:29 +0000 UTC]
exactly the lesser races need more powerful shields to protect their weak bodies, but an elite needing additional protection shows that he is weak and vulnerable

SIERRA-116 In reply to MuddyTiger [2012-12-25 05:53:50 +0000 UTC]
Sword Elites were planned to have shields like that in the original game, but like three overlapping diamond shapes instead of a circle.

I would use it in my fics too. Since it's not a Jackal shield, but something more suited to the Elite's style, I'm sure the Elites wouldn't mind it.

it was an okay Halo game, the story was different but wasn't fantastic and it seemed more like a trail for Halo Reach, like "lets see how the fans like firefight and see if they will enjoy a story not related to John"
