Great piece Mike. You made a good choice in using only black in the foreground and having the values much milder in the background. The floor really feels like wood, and its texture is very different than the jumper fabric. Great job handling the light on the different value patterns, the range of light on the hair, jumper, box, and even the black rim are very successful. His body language tells the story and the dynamic angles of his torso and arms perched on the box really gives weight to the piece. The window into the box is a great focal point of the whole piece.

Thanks a lot Forest! I really enjoy drawing and talking about art with you because I really think it is good to explicitly think about things like that (as opposed to stumbling on them through intuition). With our recent talks on color, I was really trying to concentrate on color, saturation, and value on this piece. I'm glad to hear that you think it worked out!

What a beautiful painting, great use of da muro.Seeing a developer or the maker of damuro using his own tools makes this piece very special. And also to know it's your own child you have draw on this, let's me know you are very related to this work.Very adorable.

Thanks! I definitely think that it is impossible for a developer to do a good job if they are not the number 1 fan and user of their product. Of course, I mostly draw within a particular style, so I am always eager to hear what other people feel about deviantART muro

I love the floor colouring. It has a watery/reflective feel to it (though would have been magnified more if there was the clothes reflection, but still...)

Thank you!
I was looking through your gallery, and saw that you do some wonderful things with reflections in your work! It is a great way to add a little "atmosphere" to the feeling of the piece.
