Description
Star Wars days continueI watched The Phantom Menace today and to be fair it's not nearly as bad as I remember it. Cut Jar Jar Binks's scenes from it and you've got a decent movie there.
Anyway, inspiration for this comic came from the scene where Qui-Gon has approached the Jedi Council concerning Anakin Skywalker.
Now, am I the only one who thinks Qui-Gon is an insensitive bastard in this scene?
He might as well state outright that he is bored of Obi-Wan and wants to train somebody with more potential. And to make matters worse, the Council insultingly tell Obi-Wan he isn't good enough for the trials. Ouch. Even to somebody who's part of a religion that tries to hide negative emotions, that's got to hurt.
So, Obi-Wan is left with a Master who's sick of the sight of him and a Council who think he is shit. On top of that, I read a few days ago that Obi-Wan was nearly 13 when Qui-Gon took him on, meaning that he very nearly didn't get to be a Jedi at all. And even then he had to ask Qui-Gon to train him.
Harsh.

Okay so let me see if i get this straight:
1) Obi-Wan starts of as such a "weak" (their words, not mine) youngling that no one want's to train him.
Β
2) His master wants to replace him with some slave kid from some dustball of a planet in the outer-rim.
3) He is forced to watch his master beeing killed right in front of him.
4) He ends up having to train this slave kid, while he himself isn't even ready yet to become a master.
5) His padawan is a little shit.
6) He is drafted into a war (which alone is enough to give most people PTSD).
7) That guy who killed his master, comes back from the dead and kills his girlfriend.
8) His now former padawan turnes into a psycohpath, and murders almost his entire people.Β
9) He has to fight, his former padawan, and almost kills him.Β
10) He's forced into exile on the same dustball planet form (2) to watch over his evil ex-padawan's son.
11) His evil ex-padawan's daughter names her evil son after him.
... Β ...
I don't have words...

....No fucking wonder Qui's formerΒ padawan, Xanatos, went evil, his masters a total dick, insensitive and takes the prophecy too seriously and has no decency to think of Kenobi's feelings by choosing Anakin over him.
Also, if Obi hadn't been loyal to the jedi code, he would have allowed his jealousy for Anakin make him Sidious's apprentice...which would be AWESOME!!!

I don't think Qui-Gon being insensitive or such was the reason for Xanatos to go evil. As of what I've read and heard, during his last mission as a padawan Xanatos saw how much wealth and power his father had gotten and felt that the Jedi had robbed him of the chance to get the same. Thus he fell to the dark side and turned against Qui-Gon - and the rest of the Jedi Order.
That's how I see it.

I don't remember it being that blatant...then again, I haven't seen the movie in ages, and I know this is a humorous exaggeration. But whatever. Your little Obi-Wans are cute!

I wonder if it happened because he fears betrayal by his own Padawan because of Xanatosβ¦
Qui-Gon trained Xanatos to almost knighthood, and he gets betrayed by his own padawan, so maybe it was the fear of betrayal.
Just my guess.

I love this comic... I always thought, Qui-Gon was so bad to Obi-Wan since he met Anakin. In the books that take place before TPM, I liked Qui-Gon, but not in the movie. What did he think when he did these things? 'Yah, Obi-Wan is old enough he can handle that...' or 'I have to make him promise that he will train the boy as I wanted to... He can handle that I didn't mention him in my last words.'
Or when Qui-Gon came back in TCW as a ghost. His first words to Obi-Wan: "Have you trained the boy?" WTF? So, yeah, you're completely right. Bastard!
So your comic do express what I thought, Obi-Wan should have done... I will add it to my favorites... Thank you

Mudonite In reply to Star-Explorer [2011-12-21 22:57:27 +0000 UTC]
It's so clear in the movies how attached Obi is to Qui. Qui doesn't treat him with the respect he deserves... seriously, every conversation they have is about Anakin! Obi must have been pretty jealous even if he didn't show it. Obi probably wouldn't have offered to train Anakin if it hadn't been Qui's dying wish.
And thank-you for the favourite! It means a lot

Poor Obi... I totally agree that Qui is an insensitive bastard.
And his last words to his padawan? Train the boy... -.-
He asked Qui more times to train him, but Qui only choose him as a padawan after Obi nearly sacrificed his life to save Qui and random innocent ppls.

I know! Even in his dying moments he's still talking about Anakin! If Obi-Wan weren't so loyal to the Jedi code, he'd be fuming.
Poor Obi! I bet he was glad by the time he found Luke because there was finally somebody who actually enjoyed his company

Ugh, I hated Qui-Gon during that scene. Poor Obi-Wan...it's okay, soon you will play a pivotal point in the plot, then no one can say you're not good enough.
