omg, this is so true. I am sad that this version of Cell didn't last long because of 2 things.
1. This design of Cell shows that Toriyama can design good "overdesigned" characters considering people claim that his designs are only good because they are simple and excuse recolored transformation for that reason
2. This is probably the best looking version of Cell for me. I do like the final form but this made Cell stand out as a visually intimidating villain.

The only Cell I kinda like is the first one. Because he is scary and menacing in an animalistic way. Like, he drinks people not because he is a sadistic bitch, but because he needs that energy to grow and gain strenght. It was terrifying and even fresh for the series, but then his second and perfect form came and I lost all interest in him. He is a bland character, with no personality of his own. Because his arrogance and elegance are the same thing that Frieza had. Recycled and boring.

This is exactly why I don't like Cell as a villain. He isn't even cunning like the show implied. The "all villains need a simple elegant design" bullshit really took away what made him stand out.
