----

A completely original character this time around and a transformation sequence no less! Sorry if it's a little sketchy, thought I'd leave the linework as is and just work my usual magic here

Mercury-Pentacle's take on the Mask formula is a bit different than what I'm used to churning out, in that the victim's Mask incarnation is physically a completely different person but I recall gushing about the original character designer ~devlinne ([link] and here [link] ) suggesting she could practically do a graphic novel for Dark Horse with Mercury's story if she wanted to

To say nothing of SDKZero either, as he did a good job drawing the Mask Transformation sequence of Cara Vernon becoming Vivia the Jade and the removal sequence when she reverts back to normal. Also of note his translation of the designs to a more manga look was handled quite well as they didn't stray too far from the original designs, proving to be a fine stand-in.

I've never seen anyone attempt to make their own character for the Mask and honestly this is absolutely amazing !!

SDKZero provided the linework for this transformation sequence and I merely took on the task of bringing it to color

Your thanks can go to Mercury-Pentacle for the character herself. Guy even wrote a story for her, plus the initial concept art he commissioned also stands on its own too. The lady that provided said art ought to go pro if she hasn't already.

This seems like a realy poopular OC. Great coloring job, especially with the ominous-looking mask glow.

Yeah, Mercury-Pentacle's pretty cool peeps and this was one of my favorite SDKZero projects to color. I'm surprised some people had trouble following it by sequence when it was discussed elsewhere.

If people have trouble, a simple mnemonic device for following it: "M is for Mask"

The glow was the perfect tint of green too.

Thanks for the links, just finished reading this--definitely going to have to take a crack at this character. Someday.

Glad to hear it. I find both their designs appealing, so part of me wonders if it's a transformation sequence.

Oh, probably. There's a couple moments from the story that would be fun to recreate.

One of my favorite parts was when Vivia was on a motorcycle

Vivia with the bazooka was nice. And her slight loss for words: "Aliens...you think...?"

Amazing mult-artist work! Story and bio of a great gal(and her masked persona as well) protagonist from Mercury-Pentacle, amazing design and coloring scheme first seen from devlinne, beautiful masked TF lineart full of emotions, action, and beauty that is well drawn and clean looking lines with good details, and your amazing coloring skills I've praise before and will praise again complete this wonderfully!

Very well done and your skills are marvelous! She is a very interesting OC and love the takes on her from different artists!

Holy Shit this is awesome!! love the green background! Adds a nice contrast to and helps accent the art and the fact that this is a Mask transformation. Really superb!

Oh cool! You colored this as well! Your style is very nice. Any advice for me and my use of Paint?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MugenKeiji In reply to Firingwall [2012-02-04 19:30:35 +0000 UTC]

Paint? Heavens no. Though I did announce on one of the pictures I had plans to color this as far back as December

My style can be done with a program that works in layers like Photoshop, Corel or GIMP. Without soft brushes or the ability to paint over the linework, I'm afraid I'd take MUCH longer Not to mention I have a tendency to change up the colors from the flats at times when I'm in the shading process if something doesn't look right...it'd be a nightmare.

Though my shading did change since 2007, so I guess I can say use similar colors when shading or adding highlights to a base color (Highlight Orange with lighter orange or even some shades of Yellow, shading blue with darker blue or some shades of purple). Keep a palette/color guide handy to use your Eyedropper tool as well, because Paint can only "remember" so many colors in your active palette at once.
