Description
My Dad was made redundant about 4 months ago, which given the current 'economic climate' was quite scary. But now he's finally got a new job, I can make light of it.So this is his birthday card to commemorate his time off.
Some of the things he's done in this time are building a small wall which is the first step towards a new patio and installing a new loft hatch which required sawing a hole in the ceiling and accidentally removing part of the ceiling that wasn't meant to be a hole.
It's so tempting to actually use this cover for a real comic.
SCARY FACT. He was actually wearing this exact outfit today when I gave it to him. AND he got one of those hats as a present. He is a cartoon character.

out of curiosity, which pen did you use ? Pentel ?

This was actually done with brush and ink.
I'm on the look out for some decent pens. The fineliners I used to use don't really cut it any more.

I'm used to fineliners, but am not totally satisfied with them any more either. but it's still my favourite medium to work out pieces

I've found that if I draw straight out with fineliners I get quite spontaneous exciting drawings, but I don't enjoy inking with them any more. I like using ink and brush for the nice line differences and flowyness you get. Though I want to get my hands on a nice brush tipped pen.

I have a "Pentel" one that can be refilled. And I do so with Ecoline. Works really neat.

Not only has it got a great story behind it ( hooray for your dad and boooh to economic instability ), the drawing is just so fun and delicious to look at. And what makes the whole even more perfect is your great colorwork ( as always ). Yeah, you should make this a comic, this cover is already AAAWWEEESSOOOMMM

Why thank you very much sir.
Maybe I should just straight up make my dad a recurring character. He tends to crop up as a drawing quite regularly.

Well I sport a beard from time to time (now being one of them). And I did once don a moustache for a day before removing it completely and it was a very liberating experience.

aha, mister beard ey . I tried, many times, but the itch always kills me and forces me to get the lawnmower.
didn't know you could use the expression "sport a beard". I love that . to get back to your liberating experience-moment, yeah, great ! I made up some quoty thing for a little fun book about random stuff and truths of life
