Boy, I had fun working on this one!Β As soon as the weather gets brisk, I have an uncontrollable urge to draw spooky things.Β This is my favorite time of year!

Fantastic. And you really managed to give them that distinct Fall feel.
Boxcars is particularly freaky. Forgive me if I'm talking out my butt, but I think there's a special art to truly creepy faces. There's a difference between "this is obviously a threat" and "that might have been human once, but something WRONG happened to it."

Thank you, sir!Β I love fall, so when it came around that year, I had to focus that pent-up fall enthusiasm on something.
Ah, that's a good point!Β He definitely comes off as a sort of "sad clown" type--maybe even a more tragic figure.Β He doesn't seem to like being what he is, or has reverted to a more instinctual type of existence.Β In any case, if I saw him along the road, I'd give him some space.

You put that energy to good use!
If that's what you were shooting for with Boxcars, then you nailed it. Can't be entirely sure what's in his head, but something about him speaks of a quiet but sad resignment to his fate.

"as much pity as apprehension" is a great way of putting it, and perfectly depicts that special niche of monster Boxcars is in.
That's such a toss up, isn't it? Should one leave the story creepy and sad, or give it a happy ending all the more uplifting for how low it started? Tough call.
But now you have me noodling on a version 2. What would be a natural progression? I'm picturing him trying to turn his 'whatever he's afflicted with' on its head. Tries to dress up like a cheerful clown but unfortunately does a bad job. Costume all hand stitched together out of rags and wearing a paper clown mask that's way too small.
And then the question is: "Is he sincerely trying to look less threatening to not scare people? Or is he trying to lure potential victims into a false sense of security?"
Of course, everyone's going to assume the later, and if it's really the former, oh how sad.

Yeah, I've thought about that myself!Β I tend to be a bit of a softy with a lot of things, so I always want sad characters to be redeemed.Β But sometimes the most powerful stories show a character succumbing to their shortcomings.Β Tough call indeed!Β
Oh, that's an interesting point!Β I could see a version 2 going in either direction.Β ...And either would be pretty sad.

Thank you, sir!Β Ghost Tori is supposed to be reminiscent of the kinds of ghost stories you tell at a campfire--usually about a ghost girl wandering the road.Β I included the grave marker (the kind you'd find on the side of the road, from a fatal accident) to hint at what might have caused her death.Β Kind of morbid for a Creepazoid, but the gloomy feel of this set seemed fitting.
