That's too bad! Β It can be hard to hang on to stuff like that. Β I've lost my share of art, too.

This is one of the coolest evolution I have ever seen... Quite impressive how you already had a style at such a young age. I'm fond of the 2000 sai/slash.

I should post one of these of my lady.

THIS IS SO COOL TO SEE, I love Sai, amazing to see the evolution of him.

Yes! I'd love to see the evolution of Talon! I think it's fascinating to see how characters and artists grow. And you've done a lot of growing--I'm really impressed with your art! I'm glad you think I helped you, but I think it's all you. ^___^

I was actually interested to get your take on the "Version 8.0" Sai--I know it's kind of weird to mess with his actual design, but I thought for a graphic novel it might be kinda neat. I don't know... his classic design could work too, it'd just be less realistic. The key is that he's still a smart ass, because that's what makes Sai, Sai.

Dragonnis In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2013-06-25 09:56:38 +0000 UTC]

I did the work, but you definitely helped! I'd never met or been introduced to quality art yet, and it became something I worked for and you got me interested in it, all the way back from Technodrome.com ha.

I think his 8.0 design is really interesting, but I really think his classic design could work just fine. I think it depends on what you want to push with him, this newer version he looks a lot more intimidating, wrathful, and fits into your comic's style better, and the previous design looks a lot faster, smart assy, and like someone you could let your guard down around, and get your ass kicked.

My biggest problem with the the 8.0 design is that I don't feel like there's something obvious from the design that makes him special, which is a reason I miss the claws. Seems like most of the chars have a part of them that seems to really shine in the design. Don't get me wrong at all, he looks like a total bad ass in the new versions.

It's really your preference, I think Sai is one epic char either way, and it would be awesome to see him in there.

Sweet! Β I'm really glad I was able to help! Β I love that about art, how it can inspire others. Β I was inspired by so much art growing up, and it's very gratifying to know I can pass it on. ^___^ Man, those Technodrome days were good times! Β They still have my art up there! Β I still email the head of that site from time to time, updating him with what I'm up to--he's a nice guy!

Yeah, I agree on Sai's 8.0 style. Β I like the idea of it, but there's something fundamentally not-Sai about it. Β That maybe it takes itself too seriously, and that's always been Sai's defining characteristic, that he takes nothing seriously. Β

Although 8.0 does still have the claws, they're just retracted in that particular picture. Β I think I have another where his claws are out--I should post that one! Β But you're right, they kind of are his signature. Β And actually, part of the reason he's named Sai--I thought his 3-clawed fingers resembled the prongs on a sai. Β Fun fact! Β

Thanks for the input! Β It'll be a while before I'd make this story a reality, but it's good to start working some of this stuff out. Β If nothing else, I might just give the 7.0 Sai the hakama pants. Β I've kind of grown fond of them! Β Plus, they'd make it easier for him to hid his tail when he's out and about.

MurderousAutomaton In reply to StarGamerWorld [2013-06-09 19:09:03 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! ^___^ This is actually the closest thing to a reference page I have for him! One of these days I should do a proper one. And I don't want to give too much away about the backstory (I plan on doing a graphic novel one of these days), but he's a few thousands years old and has been spending his life keeping mankind in check. That's a full time job! He's also inadvertently responsible for most of the monster myths of ancient culture (tengu, yeti, werewolves, etc.).

Yeah! There's more I can say, but I don't want to give it away. The story's also about him coming to terms with what he is, and trying to figure out his purpose--he knows it's tied to humans, but they frustrate him so much he has trouble figuring it out.

Sounds great! What sort of tone or mood would be used to described Sai's journey? It sounds like he could very likely end up in some pretty, well, crazy experiences

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to StarGamerWorld [2013-07-04 21:31:00 +0000 UTC]

Good question--I think overall his story would have a lot of humor and sarcasm, but deep meaning behind it. Something along the lines of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, but maybe less dark and pessimistic. Less about flat-out criticism of society, and more about using his will to change others, but discovering a change from within. There's more I could say, but I don't want to give anything away!

I think the stories themselves would have quite a bit of action, and mostly deal with keeping mankind in check. I haven't decided yet if he'd be the only creature in the story--might be kinda cool to have him face off with other monsters, but it might also be cool to ground the story in reality, with him being the only monster in an otherwise history-accurate world. Not sure which way to go with it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StarGamerWorld In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2013-07-04 21:34:48 +0000 UTC]

Those all do sound interesting. I'd be interested to see where'd it go

As for whether to have other monsters or not, is having issues/side-plots that focus on Sai and other monsters, as well as ones focusing on Sai and humans, mutually exclusive? I'm just curious as I can easily imagine both humans and other monsters existing in the world, while Sai can end up in events that focus primarily on humans and/or monsters.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to StarGamerWorld [2013-07-05 01:21:10 +0000 UTC]

Good point! The story itself is a collection of Sai's experiences spanning thousands of years, so I suppose stories of other monsters could show up at some point, and could be inserted without it affecting the major storylines with the humans.

Although, I suppose Sai himself would have more impact, story-wise, if he was the only monster in this world. Sort of in the sense that he's the wild card that's altering everything, and making us second-guess our history--if there were other monsters, he might not seem as important to the plot. But I have time to think about it! I wouldn't start this story till The Revival is done, which will probably be quite a while.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StarGamerWorld In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2013-07-05 01:25:13 +0000 UTC]

Thousands of years? I actually think that having monsters and only humans can work in a way. This is just an idea, but what if the early half or somewhat stages of the story had other monsters in it, but as things go on, they decrease in number until Sai is only left, at which point he'd have a much bigger role and impact.

That's just an idea and it might contradict with what you already have in mind, but I am hoping it might help give you an idea you really like
