He's got Golden in him? Strange, he looks like a purebred Yellow Field Lab to me.

How old is he?

You should check out my dog forum (not to spam or anything I swear ) I bet I could help you get him to walk nicely so you don't have to use a nasty Gentle Leader on him

He's gorgous

Do you still use a GL on him? I strongly believe GL's are somewhat dangerous and pointless. I've had dogs slip out of them and take off, including one who was human/dog aggressive :S Any high strung, strong dog shouldn't use one I believe, and labs are deffinatly large, strong dogs, who are most often high strung!

I have white swiss shepherd 38 kilos and believe me, after four weeks of TRAINING how to walk normally with GL (or "halti") he now is easier to control with normal collar. Often people say it's dangerous but after my observations I can say it's all because of lack of knowledge. I'm a dog trainer and often people come to me with the problem of pulling dog but when they start to use halti AND start to WORK WITH THE DOG they can't believe it's the same dog It's the matter of being smarter than your dog and in fact NOT using strenghth with halti. Corect size of halti doesn't let your dog slip out of it however we must keep on mind that dog is an animal, NOT machine. And my dog slipped out of halti once, I admit. But that's not the reason for not using this. It was entirely my fault as it always is human's fault, not animals.
If you say halti is pointless then I say you probably never tried this or you didn't know how to use it, it's common statement among people i work with. There are dogs that need halti for one month and then they stop pulling but there are really hard dogs to work with and same hard people It's not a matter of halti itself, because just like graphic programs or pencils for artists - it's just a TOOL. One has to work with the tool and has to know as much as possible of this tool to have best results. Other stuff is just laziness.

I'm a dog trainer as well I know how to use a halti/GL and I've found from experience it just isn't for all dogs, most of all high strung, large breeds. I will admit there's a place for it and not ALL large, high strung dogs it won't work on. Training is all about the individual dog, regardless of breed. However, I've found my methods of training to be a lot faster and effective where you train through respect rather than bribing. I just personally don't like them as a training tool. It's good there's all different types of trainers out there though because all different types of dogs are different. Each trainer needs to be able to adapt their own methods to each individual dog though. I personally am just not big on the GL/Halti and would prefer to use it only if i found it necessary.

That's what I do First simple training, basic comunication with the dog, but if the dog is hard to control and - mostly! - the owner has made the dog behave bad I start with halti to make this clear for the dog - no more controling over the owner. Then, after the dog gets it we can go further. I don't rely on any tool in fact, they're just help And of course I don't use any way of forcing the dog or the owner. Basically I teach by playing with the dog and the owner. Sometimes more with the owner because in the end dogs get it faster - it's fun!
But this we can discuss on the forum when I visit it
