Remember Jervis Tetch from Batman The Animated Series? upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia⦠www.toonzone.net/anbat/btas/ma⦠Well, guess who I'm going to be for Halloween? I was trying to find our decorations when I stumbled upon one of my costume bins and in it was my unfinished "Mad Hatter" costume. (thought of doing this last year, but I didn't have everything) So I spent a few days putting things together and viola! Jervis Tetch.The shirt, pants, coat and shoes were located at my local Salvation Army. The spats, gloves, bow, and hat were purchased. I dyed the bow (clowns bow) black and sewed back the corners. The hat got a new blue ribbon and 10/6 card and I also added new buttons to the dark blue coat.
I like to think I'm reusing clothing by finding costumes this way... but really I can't sew and I'm just lazy...

If I saw you wearing this at a Comic Con, I'd be impressed. In fact, I donβt need to be at a Comic Con to be impressed! Your outfit is spot on! I've recently got into Batman: The Animated Series and have seen two episodes with the Mad Hatter in. I feel really bad for him - he's not such a horrible guy but he has terrible jealousy issues.

OMG, thank you so much! It was really fun dressing up as Jervis. I'm glad to hear you started watching Batman the Animated Series! My personal opinion is that it was the best version!
Jervis is in a handful of episodes, three centered around him and one where he's put on a mock trial. He starts out as an obsessed man and ends up a madman.

I think I've seen all of those and you're definitely right he goes from being merely obsessed to psychotic. I dread to think what his crush Alice would think if she met him after he turned to crime - he was a pretty decent guy when she knew him.

I wouldn't exactly call Jervis a decent guy. I like to romanticize the Hatter as much as the next person but he was working for Bruce Wayne to produce technology, and HE DID, he created a mind control device. Yet, when Bruce came all the way to his office, Jervis covered his work & lied about its completion! I get the feeling that he was a bit of a low-level criminal from the start. He had big dreams of his work making him rich/famous and with that would come Alice. In the show his delusions of grandeur lead him to "card" several people, almost unintentionally killing two, and cause s him to lose it when the fantasy he's created ended.
As for his crush on Alice, a comic I read has him kidnapping her before her wedding, but it falls through. Another source would be the episode with the trial where he admits that he would've killed her had she not chosen him.
