Description So I was lucky enough to be gifted today from my brother and sister's godparents (not mine for some reason XD) a lot of markers!! Like 90 of them!! I've always wanted to try markers but could never justify the price.

I was so excited I dug through my sketchbook for something I'd drawn and inked but not actually coloured. (I meant to colour this digitally but never got around to it.)

So this is my first attempt with markers! Defo needs some work and some practice. I think I was trying to treat them like my pencils and they are not like the pencils so there a few mistakes here and there. ...and I def used the wrong colour for Tom's skin. Just a bit too dark.

But overall I'm pretty happy with it and I can't wait to try them out again!!

aha, so here's the start of the marker-coloured pictures. since I've seen more pictures since this one, I can say you have been making a lot of improvements with your use of colours and blending. I've used markers in the past (they were too much of a pain for me and looked terrible when I used them, and none of the colours were what I wanted to use aside from like black or red, which is why I stopped) so I can definitely say it takes a lot of getting used to. depending on the type of paper you use, they will also have a problem with bleeding; not just through the paper, but across it and over lines. it looks like that's sort of what happened with this picture, though I don't mean to point it out like a critique or anything, just a really late warning about marker bleeding. if you haven't already, you might look into the prices of drawing pads specifically made for markers. the paper is thicker and is a lot less likely to bleed across the page
aaaaanyway, marker things aside, I think this is a good start for figuring out how to colour with markers. as you know, it gets better with more improvement from here

Aw yes this was my first attempt!! I was so excited to use them I didn't really look at any tutorials and just started colouring which was kind of a mistake XD

I was treating them like pencils and they're quite different. One thing I noticed and I kinda just put this down to my markers being cheap. (they're not like copics or anything XD) the colour on the lid does not look like the colour you'll get. I made a chart so I know what each pen looks like when you use it

Thanks for the tips on bleeding!! I hadn't even thought about getting a pad with thicker paper!! Colouring this ruined the picture behind it!! XD Now I place a piece of card behind when I'm colouring so it leaks onto that but it's not ideal. I'll have to investigate a better sketchbook
