They were the last couple anyone would assume to get a divorce... Unless you knew.

Shining and Cadence were absolutely in love when they got married, and the years after. So when they got news of their first pregnancy, they were absolutely overjoyed. They picked out adorable foal clothes, got a beautiful room, and even went over names.

Unfortunately, they never got to live out their dream.

When Cadence was very pregnant, she was in her and Shining's shared bedroom... When Chrysalis made her way inside. Cadence did what she could to defend herself, sending an defense attack that Shining had taught her... but Chrysalis deflected it...

And it hit her.

Shining had gotten in there at the same time, getting Chrysalis to flee... But the damage had been done.

By the time Cadence woke up from the blast, she learned that their child- their daughter hadn't made it. The child had been born an Alicorn, the first born alicorn in all Equestria... but she hadn't lived long. They named her Flurry Heart.

Shining and Cadence were utterly destroyed. Both felt hatred for themselves, and blamed themselves constantly. Unfortunately, they still had duties to attend to, and the loss of their loved one just caused them to put more work there... than with each other. The few interactions that they had were just small talk, and soon, turned to anger and defensive, and soon any interaction they had were either smiles for the cameras, or furious fights over tiny things.

They needed a divorce. It was unhealthy. But the thought of all the destruction their very wedding had caused pushed them into casting that aside. They went through anything. Counseling, communication, grief counseling. Nothing worked. Cadence herself looked into books about marriage saving, being the princess of LOVE, but.... nothing worked.

Finally, after Cadence had a talk with her beloved aunts, and Shining a talk with his beloved sister.... They knew. Whatever love they had had before was crushed by grief, heartbreak, and anger.

The divorce was finalized, and they went their separate ways, wishing the best for each other, and eventually remarrying to much healthier relationships.
