This takes place when Spike is a young adult/teenager. When he's finally starting to make new friends and learning more about his friends' lives and realizing his life was MUCH different.
His friends never had to cook or clean for their families. Never had to make sure their families went to sleep. Never slept in a fUCKING dog bed.
Spike eventually has a realization in the middle of the night, and just decides "You know what? Fuck it" and starts packing a bag. Twilight, being the non-sleeper that she is, hears him, and walks in on the dragon she saw as a brother packing a suitcase.
Spike confronts her about these things that he's come to realize, and Twilight is speechless. She's honestly just realizing it herself. But Spike doesn't care, and he basically just leaves. He stays with the CMC who share an apartment and doesn't talk with her for a long ass time. He does communicate with Shining and Cadence though, from time to time.
