Description i had an assignment for my collage class to do an assemblage, so i looked up the word just to clarify what i should be doing, and it's defined as a collection or gathering of objects or people.

this is both, in a way.

just about all of these objects are from garage/house/rummage sales... or resale in general. some of the objects are from my own personal history (like the old photos are all my family members, and the stuffed animals, etc...)

the idea was to create this secret place in the woods, which is something i've always wanted to have... but with this i wanted to make it seem like a memorial or some kind of collection of these objects i have that were once someone elses but are now mine. it's a combination of histories that are now part of my history. i wanted to isolate it to really see how these things... assemble, i guess.

and gosh, the weather was perfect that day for these shots. very cold though.

i'm not entirely sure how to categorize this piece. is it an installation? is it a photograph? teachers would tell me that this photo can't be purely documentation because it looks too nice.... but who says documentation can't look nice? i don't want to just post some crappy snapshot i took with a digital camera or something... i guess to me this is an installation that had a very short life. obviously i couldn't leave this in the woods, not only because it would get thrown out, but these objects are actually mine...

this took 6 hours from start to finish. that includes time it took me to find everything and pack it all to installing it and packing it up again. thank god i had help that day (thanks john, aka ~Zoomwafflez !)

also, i am aware of the dust on the photo. i didn't have time to clean it off but i honestly don't mind it.

You know, I use this this as a background all the time and I've never faved it... it's really beautiful and it feels loved in a way, like the person who put all these things in the woods put them there because they're that persons favorite, cherished, things.

This seems to me like something out of a story, you know where you look in that direction and there's nothing there, then you look back a few moments later and there's the secret place and some benevolent forest spirit of some sort sitting in the chair knitting or something.

It's definately a beautiful peice. Tbh I'm having trouble describing what I think of it (in a positive sense of course). I'm gonna have to fave it.

canon eos rebel 2000 with a wide angle lens, that actually doesn't fit it, so i have to hold it up to it.. haha..

thanks

This looks exactly like the kind of fort I would have loved to have as a kid. I feel so cozy just looking at it. I like the slight sepia tone (I don't know if that was added by the camera or just because a lot of the items are old, but it looks good)

oh man!! i loooove this! It's beautiful!! i love everything about it, from the colors, the symmetry, the content, the memories held in it, that nostalgic feeling, the nature-crossed-with-civiliztion theme, the fish-eye (?) lens, the order or everything; so much detail!

this is really great, kudos to you!!

p.s. have you seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or The Science of Sleep? Well, this reminds me of Michel Gondry's (director of both films) visions! and that's a compliment!

Magical and stylish, like a home for a hippie child. Ahaha, I know, that sounds so daft, and might even sound like I'm putting down the work, but I swear to feck, I'm not, I really do like this!

The dust and the tone gives the idea of the 60's,or a mix of many decades rolled into one!

This picture makes me sad for some reason. The collection of personal vintage-y things, the blurred edges and fallen leaves do that, I think. I feel like I'm intruding a memory.

Lovely.
