Description Well, she is.

First she was crying over being alone and abused, but then I dropped her on the floor and she lost one foot. And now she is inconsolable...

Material: Linden
Tools: Knife, chisels

I think the anatomy is pretty much ok, although I exaggerated her curves a little bit on purpose.
Feedback please! What do you think?

That's perfect! I love the concept too with the broken foot, but each curve and even the small carving marks just add that little bit extra into making this something...human almost. Excellent!

So it's a type of wood then? Is it soft?

Myana In reply to Itti [2008-10-05 19:01:53 +0000 UTC]

"The timber of lime trees is soft, easily worked, and has very little grain, so it is a popular wood for model building and intricate carving."

Ah okay. I use bass wood (base wood?) myself - not really sure what that is, but it's what I find at Hobbycraft : )

hehe, I'm glad you liked her - for what she was and what she became since she lost her foot. I agree, losing one of her foot was the best she could do
Many thanks for the fav!!

The material in this is linden (lime?), but for furniture I prefer oak or birch.
I love working with wood!

I'm very impressed by this... The anatomy looks great.. those legs and arms look like they were tricky

I might try again soon though

Personally, I love exaggerated curves. So way to go on that.

Also kudos to taking a mistake and making something out of it. I can tell you how many times I've broken something I've sculpted and just gave up on it or tossed it aside. What was once something meant to be deep and meaningful now has a bit of a humorous twist to it (as her reasons for being upset have changed) but it still doesn't loose the original feeling that was put into it.

The craftsmanship looks excellent as well. I love the rough texture left on the surface. It's something i don't see often enough and feel that too many blooming artists are forgetting that scoring marks give life to sculpture and that everything being smooth doesn't make it "perfect" or "better".

Myana In reply to chibishinigami [2006-07-09 18:05:41 +0000 UTC]

aww, thank you for your sweet words!

personally, I think a lot of the emotion would have dissapeard if I had sandpappered her. The rough surface helps showing her rough times.

Myana! This is lovely work (I can understand her feelings about the foot! poor thing, especially when she had all those curves to flaunt! ) Good job on the cruves, very realistic shape, I also like the way she curves into herself - couldn't have been easy to acomplish such a natural looking posture with wood - well done! its a lovely piece

I really like this, especially the back and head area. The effect of using the knife and chisels giving the little 'chips' and flat bits is really nice. Not having a face is a nice idea, too, it really emphasises the emotions of the piece to me

The right breast looks a little odd, but that might well be the lighting on the left picture..?
