Description The Harlequins put on a great shot at the Barnegat jetty this weekend! I'll never get tired of photographing them.

a wonderful pic ! the light seems to have been a bit brighter than for your previous Harlequin pics, their heads look so polished, almost ceramic.

Thank you! It was very bright that day - full afternoon sun, which is not bad for photographing Harlequins, as long as the sun is at your back. The shadows were tough and the whites came out pure white, but I think it worked out.

Wow, those two in the same angle look so similar I thought for a second it was one bird duplicated by photomanipulation (until I started comparing details). Wonderful clear shot.

It's quite funny - I did notice that myself and wondered if anyone would think I used the stamp tool! The two in the back/right are also facing in the same direction.

Thank you! Wood Ducks are birds that I STILL don't have good shots of. They are certainly tough to get.

Nice! I live in EHT, but haven't really found all the great places to shoot yet. We go to Edwin B Forsythe every once in a while but I don't have a good zoom lens to get close enough as I'd like for shots that tend to be really far from the roadway. Where exactly in Barnegat did you go for this shot? We recently went to Island State Beach Park on the other side of the waterway which is a great place to see the foxes, but was really cold and windy the day we went and only got 1 run across the street in front of us the whole day were were out. If you haven't ever been there, worth the drive in the right seasonal migrations, but foxes are there all year round, just not always easy to spot.

Thank you! This was photographed from the jetty near the lighthouse. It's a great place to get some close sea birds - especially at high tide. I lucked out with a mild day as far as wind and cold are concerned, but I've been out there when it is frigid with ice on the rocks. I have 400mm zoom, which is nice but also is not enough reach for most waterfowl. I have been to IBSP and photographed the foxes and a couple Snowy Owl visitors. I prefer Barnegat - for one thing, parking is free this time of year! The jetty is also much easier to get to.

Thanks for the reply, and I'll keep that in mind on the parking. Will have to make a trip out to the light house side. Come warm weather, we'll probably park outside the park side and ride the bikes in which is free if on bike or foot, but in cold weather, I'll pay the off season prices to not be far from the heater..hehe.

great shot, how do you like the 100-400 II

Thanks! The 100-400 II blows the old one out of the water. I notice a huge difference with the AF - hardly any out of focus photos unless fast motion is involved.

REALLY I love my 100-400L that makes me hope they start offering some deals on it, already have the 7D MK II and it blows away my 7D, thanks for responding

I think my older 100-400 was starting to show its age. I did get many good shots, but a lot more that just did not focus right. I found myself deleting a lot more photos for being just off focus. I upgraded my lens first, then the body (7D Mk I to Mk II).  The lens made a great difference, but together, they are pretty awesome! The original lens was made 15 years ago - the new technology shows AND no more push/pull for zoom.
