Description
I get two to four downy woodpeckers in my yard at a time. They like to peck at the tree that is closest to my house, when not getting suet from the feeder. This female is investigating a newly made hole in the bark.Taken from my favorite blinds - my deck, not long before my Brown Creeper shot in the same part of the tree.

awesome shot .... I have a number of these guys coming to my suet log and are getting quite tame. Recently I had one hopping up the side of a tree not 2 ft from my arm so they will get used to you. I have the same lens ..... it's awesome eh? The detail and colour in your shot is amazing.

Thank you! They'll fly right next to me now (in a tree or on the feeder). They do get used to us.

I have a female Hairy that was finally letting me get within maybe 8 ft of her tonight when I was filling the wood box. I stood still and she finally hopped on the suet log .... a first! But as soon as I moved she hopped back on the tree and teeter tottered herself up to the top ... sigh.
Hope to see you submitting more great shots like this one!

Great Photo!
You know that they drink from little holes in trees? The water from some of the trees tastes a lot like sugar : )
